Packs

I have the 'slinger and love it, though I can't speak on the others. If you're not looking for a bladder pack, you might also like Dakine's stuff, I've got several. I like the two straps on the front (meant for a skateboard) but I use them to either hold my sweatshirt, or to strap a battle mistress to my pack. They've got some great stuff. They all come with a fleece lined sunglasses pouch too. Keeps your shades safe ;). My favorite pack is my Dakine with the wetsuit pouch...thing's clutch. I use one as a daypack as well. They've got some cool features and are comfortable, well made.

If Your in a pinch for a pack, I could borrow Ya my Maxpedition Vulture in woodland camo  If Your interested, shoot me an e-mail at: darsoe@visi.com

Good timing on the thread,i am in the market for a new day pack/BOB myself. How about the S.O.Tech Go bag, anybody have experience one?

Another +1 on good timing TL!
I was just about to make a post/tread on this very topic. :)

I've pretty much decided on the Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack for my daily trail walks with the pup. I'm just not sure if I want the right side carry or the left. I'm right handed... but not sure I want it on my primary side. It would hold everything I need so there would be no other hip attachments to get in the way.

For the longer day hikes/trips, I was thinking about getting one of the Maxpedition slingers. The Typhoon looks pretty nice. But now that considerations about one strap versus conventional two strap packs have been mentioned, I'm not sure I want a single strap slinger. :o Although, I typically carry two strap packs on one sholder. Hmmmmm.... lots to think about. For a two strap model... I like the looks of the Condor II.

But now you all have mentioned a few other I need to check out. :o

Thanks for a great thread TL!

Lil'Foo: I am leaning towards either the Condor II or the Falcon II. Both are hydration fitted. The Falcon is a little more compact while the Condor is a bit larger. So it depends one what you need.

Hunting for the right pack is getting addicting. Next it'll be flashlights. :D

 damn... we are on the same track! :D

I've decided on the Surefire 6PL. :p

Now I'm re-thinking on packs too.
I thought the Condor II was more compact than the Falcon
Just can't keep them all straight when you're looking at too many. :o

But I think I've decided on a left side carry on the versipack.

back and forth... back and forth... eventually, I'll have to pull the trigger and buy someting!

I feel your pain. :D I just went through the official Maxpedition website for specs on each model. However, I think a few have changed. I see from this thread that the Pygmy Falcon II is now equipped for a water bladder.

I'll have to check out that flashlight BTW. ;)

how much money do kifaru packs cost???

i mean, it's a backpack, how expensive can they be????

usually for me, on a short hike, i'll strap a big blade to my belt and sling a $20 jansport across my back, and i'm good to go!!!

please educate me on the virtues of a more expensive pack.....

i spend thousands of dollars on guns and knives, but packs???

by the way, i got an old school surefire 9N for my lightstick.....

depends on the model but they are all 400+

Like I said I have three different models and I would never go back to any other pack..... but I camp out for 2 weeks at a time humping my gear 20 miles a day, so the price is justified for my uses.

I have only bought my packs directly from them b/c they need to know a lot of info to custom make the pack to you height, waist size, and other preferences. These pack truly are custom made for you

Maxpedition:thumbup:

Someone has the older model Condor(never used) in the exchange. Thought about it, but have enough. New model has more attachment webbing.

$400.....

too rich for my blood.....

Thank you for that one.

Is it me or are the Maxpedition Condor II and Falcon II huge? I have seen some pics with some guy wearing each and they just seem really big. Perhaps I have worn my REI day pack for too long. :p

Glad to help. One of the challanges I had was finding a pack that was big enough for what I needed but not so big it a) overwhelmed me and b) it did not have a ton of empty space that I had to pack around needlessly. I wanted something in the 2500 ci range and it was hard to find something in that size. I'm also picky about colors. For what it is worth I'm currently favoring the Osprey Krestal 38 in green. I still have not made it over to REI to try it on and see how it fits. The other one that I'm going to take a closer look at is the Deuter 42.
