Packs

Okay, here is a quick pick of the Falcon II with an NO-E for scale. I'll do more of a review later tonight or tomorrow after I have had a chance to check out the details and load it up. ;)

TL

Really looking forward to your review mate.

I've been looking at this bag on line for a while but It's hard to tell what it's really like.

Can you please also let us know how many internal organiser type pockets there are and maybe some pictures of the inside on each compartment of the bag and the bag on your back.

Hope I'm not being to forward in my request.

Thank you
Frank

Hey guys. Sorry but I have been getting for a family trip which I am leaving for in about 10 min. I will do a review when I get back Thrus. or Friday after I have had a chance to use it. But I will say that the Falcon II has lots of pockets and allows you to really organize things. More so than the Condor II but then the Condor II has a little more space. So it all depends on what you want.

The water bladder fits nicely. The bottom of the pack is reinforced with extra material. My FFBM easily fits inside the pack. I will try to attach it when I get to camp later today.

I will take lots of pics and perhaps a short video showing the different pockets and such. But if you guys can't wait until Thurs. or Friday I say the Falcon II is a keeper. The only thing I have read is that some people wanted more room. I try to pack as light as I can. IMO it has plenty of room. I still haven't filled up all the pockets.:thumbup:

Here are a couple of links on the packs:

I have a BlackHawk 3-day pack in OD - tough, one-dimensional pack, don't use it today, last used it for a laptop bag.

I love the ATS R.A.I.D pack, have a couple, one from the original EAGLE/Lightfighter run, and the new coyote brown one, here... RAID Pack in Coyote Brown.

I like the molle tabs, interior mesh pockets, outside slot pockets, and durability even AFTER you cut 1/2-way through one of the straps while drawing your RUCK from the pack in a hurry, while it's in the front of the truck (because the SNAKE is curled around the front axle, and REALLY needs to come OFF)... don't ask... :)

Still works as-is, carries 45-50 pounds as easy as I can carry it, and like the way it rides on my back - comfortable.

Pics show an add-on Kirafu claymore pouch, which I WILL do again for my other RAID. See side view for true view of pack size...

I seriously like how small it can be made, and how heavy a load you can carry with it if you choose... I know, I look like a hobo in the last pic from this weekend, but hey, I'm a well-armed hobo... :)

Good luck! :)

John

Rat-

Can you add any info on the suspension and waistbelt for the RAID pack? Sounds like its good from what you said, but the website doesn't talk about it , and no pics at all. In particular, is the waist belt a good one? Is it removable? This seems like a good deal for for this pack.

Thanks,

Dan

Hello, Dan -

The newest RAID pack does not ship with a waist belt. I thought it was optional, but I don't use one these days, as most of my hiking is short, and on level ground.

There are mounting tabs for a waist belt - I don't have one at this time. I bet I could add a belt from one of my other packs (Eagle, Blackhawk, etc), if needed. The slip-buckles (don't know what proper name is) are 2'' wide, mounted on webbing tabs forward edge of pack bottom.

I suppose you could add whatever belt you prefer.

The shoulder straps are well-padded - you can see the foam layers in one of my pics (:o)... I carry 45-50# loads comfortably, mostly 30# on a regular basis. The sternum-strap is great, and easy to adjust.

I think these are quite a bargain at the price point on the coyote brown pack. I hope that helps!

Rat-30/John-

Thanks for the info! That's exactly what I wanted to know. I like having the option for a belt when needed but nothing otherwise. Glad to hear there are tabs. Sounds like a real deal for that price. Probably going to jump on one this week.

Thanks,

Dan

Bump to the top

You're not off the hook TL :D :D :D

LMAO. You got it. Now remember that I have never really had a quality pack so I can not compare the Falcon II to anything other than some lower end packs. Although my last pack was an REI model which was pretty darn good for day hikes until my wife claimed it as the "diaper bag" :p!

Anyway, here is a quick vid giving a really basic review of the Falcon II. Sorry for the quality but it was rushed, one handed, first take, background noise, mumbling :p, etc... but it should be decent enough to give you guys an idea.

And much thanks to all of you guys helping me with this. :)

Thanks very much TL. Geat review

Seeing the pack in your video just gave me a much better understanding of it's size. When ever I read anything about it some people say it's "big for it's size" others "it's small". Everyone has a different opinion.

Anyhow, your vid confirms that that particular pack should be just right for my needs.

Thanks again TL. :)

Great review, Tyrkon!

Nice pack for the size, and I can see what folks like about them.

Best regards,

John

Kriafu may well be THE pack I end up with one day. Like the Busse of packs. But the Maxpedition stuff seems pretty darn solid. Probably all I will ever need. Good stuff guys. Post pics when you can and lets try to add some Busse/INFI content when possible. ;)

In fact, if the kids go to sleep with out trouble, I am going to work on some variations of attacking my NO-E and FFBM to to my Falcon 2. Heck, maybe even the AK too. :D And then I'll put some pics up showing the variations.

Thanks guys.

The camelbak HAWG or the MOTHERLODE are killer packs! I bow hunt out of either and can stuff alot of gear and they are the most comfortable packs Ive ever worn! Ive worn a bunch and jumped out of planes, choppers and......oh my!!!! I actually have the BFM which is the big pack, then the motherlode, then the hawg and then the mule! I use em all depending on whats going on! They have held up well!!
