Packs

Any one use a Eagle A-III pack? Im trying to get one, they seem like a nice pack. :D

See my earlier post re: R.A.I.D. pack -

Best pack in that size range, in my opinion. EAGLE makes great gear, the Blackhawk 3-day pack I have is a copy of the A-III, no comparison in quality.

I prefer the RAID pack for the flexibility in that size of a pack, has hydration pouch, internal load straps, zippered mesh bags internal, molle all over the exterior, can customize the exterior as you wish... carries INFI with ease, even after a 'run-in' with the RUCK...

Thank you for that one.

Is it me or are the Maxpedition Condor II and Falcon II huge? I have seen some pics with some guy wearing each and they just seem really big. Perhaps I have worn my REI day pack for too long. :p

The Falcon II is not that big at all, and kinda narrow. I like mine but the next one I get will be the larger wider Condor II.

Both are great, just comes down to the size you want

Brigade had them for $70 late Sat at Blade, called a few days later and they were reg price at the store. There going to matching zippers on all, so you should be able to find a good deal soon.

you can only buy kifaru packs direct from them unless you are getting it second hand. it generally takes 6 weeks depending on color to make. the thing about kifaru is once you take the plunge you will never look back;)

this is the best website i have ever run across for backpack/gear reviews. i'm sure the maxped stuff you are interested in is on here.

Right now I'm using a battlelab 3-day assault pack from http://www.diamondbacktactical.com/Three-Day-Assault-Pack-C322.aspx

The patch is from milspecmonkey.

Well the Maxpedition Falcon II just arrived. I have to say that for starters it is not near as big as I thought it would be. Which I am pleased with. I will have to open it up later and see just how much room I have here but it looks just like what I was looking for.Pics to come tonight.

BTW: Have any of you attached a leather sheath to the outside of your packs? Like an FFBM? I have an awesome Chuddy Bear I'd like to use. Thanks.

You got the Max eh? Good choice....it's going to be my next pack. The stuff they make is crazy tough.

Ignore my PM then....:p

the one I have is a knock off of the Falcon II

I have one that I use as a daily carry. It works perfectly for me and I've had no inclination to replace it.

For outdoors/hiking carry I recently bought a Mystery Ranch. Oooh.

:D

brother drop the coin on the Kifaru, Mel is a great guy to deal with and you will NEVER need to replace that pack, unless a freakin abrams runs it over, and then only maybe, I've had 7-tons and "hummvees" run over mine, still strong.

I just cannot decide between the Kifaru Express or Xray - and the TAD-Fastpack...
Tyrkon, do a review on your Max...:)

Okay, here is a quick pick of the Falcon II with an NO-E for scale. I'll do more of a review later tonight or tomorrow after I have had a chance to check out the details and load it up. ;)

Is that black or OD?

I'm currently thinking about getting the Maxpedition Monsoon in Khaki

I'm curious about how you like the Falcon II.
I keep going back & forth between that and the Monsoon.

Oh, and I've changed my mind on flashlights too :o...
Fenix TK10 & the L1D.

.

Lil Foo how big are you?

I have the Monsoon in black, and at 5'11" I have the strap fully taught and it doesn't seem to hold that well.

Great pack, but built for bigger people IMO.

6'2 at 185 lbs.

One of the things I like about the shape is that it narrows at the top
which should give nice room for free shoulder movement.

But if you're 5'11" and the strap is too long for you,
it would most likely be the same for me. :(

Maybe it was designed to go over body armor or something.

Time to re-think a little.
Thanks for the heads up!!!

After reading this thread I checked out Kifaru's website, and I'm betting I'm a convert now.

I'm going to be ordering my first Kifaru today, and one for my daughter as well. I worked it out, and with K-12, (13 years of school), at approx 1 $30 Jansport pack per year, (which is about how long my brother and I could keep one without completely destroying it), I can just get her a Kifaru E&E bag with an organizer, and then work with the modular system to upgrade her pack as the need arises, and probably save money on the deal.

Go kifaru...I have a kifaru express http://www.kifaru.net/MGexpress.htm. Very nice pack although I have not used it much in the field but I have used packs professionally for almost ten years. Depending on the type of use/need I think kifaru is a good option as far as comfort and longevity. The waist band for example is nice because you carry most of the weight with your hips/legs which reduces the fatigue on your shoulders and upper body . My brother deployed with I think it is called emr or mmr can't remember but he has owned it for 6-7 years and it is still going strong. My pack has aluminum lumbar support which is nice becasue you can bend them to the contour of your back. I stop plugging kifaru good choice though.
