You might think about hooking up with some ACC members in your area if you care to. C-boaters are a great bunch of people. That would be the ArkLaTex Chapter which meets the first Wednesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. at the Real Pickle, 855 Pierremont Road, Shreveport, LA. (Intersection of Line and Pierremont). They are pretty active in organizing outings and a great source of information about paddling opportunities in your area, equipment, skills etc. Please keep us informed, and feel free to ask any questions. In spite of my "diharea of the keyboard" on this topic, there are some other members here far more experienced and well versed than I.

I am really enjoying this thread. I have had an Old Town 169 for several years and mostly paddle blackwater rivers in Ga like the Ogeechee and the Ohoopee. Also the Okefenokee Swamp. We as a family got the whitewater bug almost 20 years ago and my wife and son paddled Perception kayaks while I had a Dagger Caption. I absolutely loved that boat. We paddled the Nantahala, Little Tennessee and sections 1 and 2 of the Chattooga. Why no more whitewater? KNEES. Be sure to test paddle a boat with a saddle and foot pegs if possible before buying if anyone is thinking about it. Codger sounds like you know what I am talking about. Now to my question. LOL Please explain in laymans terms how you do a wide area search on Craigslist. Dont know what I am doing wrong. I am interested in searching possibly for canoes in SC and GA. Thanks and keep the posts coming.

Well, search machines outside of Craigslist itself is one way. Like Yakaz. There are others that use bots to cruise the webs for your item.

The way I do a most thorough search on CL is to pick a major city from the list for the target state. Like Nashville. Then I pick boats. Then I enter "canoe" and do a mouse-over copy so that I can paste it from then on when I switch cities. After going through that list, I go back to the top and pick the city again, "Nashville". It gives me a sidebar list of surrounding cities. I pick one, then go through the process again. SC and GA are rich in canoes for sale, but for the most part, too far for me to drive for anything but a killer deal. Both of the Old Towns I bought were within a few hours drive of here. And you will do a lot of culling from the listings. I avoid the canoes with blow molded seats sold by the big box stores just because I don't like them. Many of them are rebranded Pelicans. A few are Old Towns, and some other brands. There are some killer deals but it takes some effort to find them. Both of my canoes were very lightly used and well under $400. Both sellers were willing to discuss at length, email me more pictures and deal, then hold the boats on a pick-up promise and definate date and time. And both cane with a bill of sale. It isn't a good idea to buy a stolen boat on Craigslist or elsewhere.

Start with Albany and look at the list on the right.

Here is a list of "Blue Hole Canoe Craigslist" search on Yakaz:

You can also use List Alert. They will email you links to CL sales that match your search.

I've been using adhuntr to search all craigslists around the country. I've had great success finding canoes this way. It helps if you're looking for a particular boat, though. Do a search for "Dagger Encore canoe" and you might get a hit or two. Search for just "canoe" and your results will be so numerous that they'll be practically unusable.

Thanks! Will check it out. Shreveport is a bit away though. It's a 3 hour drive for me!

Meeting attendence is not manditory by any means. They are just a great group of like minded souls from all walks of life who share enjoyment of all things paddling related. Much of the communication and arrangement for trips, whitewater or rec boating, is done through the main website.

I will add that you do not have to be a dues paying member of the Arkansas Canoe Club to join and post on the site or to just read it. Nor do members and fans have to be in/from Arkansas. Every surrounding state has members in it and a lot of the ACC members organize out of state trips.

Arkansas River Canoe & Kayak Race June 1st

The Arkansas River Canoe and kayak Race will be June 1st this year .
Come paddle the beautiful Arkansas River from Murray Park in Little Rock down to the I-30 bridge. Its your chance to paddle the river safely with safety boats watching over you.
Come see some of the fastest paddlers in the U.S. and some of the slowest .
Canoe`s , Kayak`s and Stand up Paddle boards should be a fun day!!
www.paddlearkansas.com

It's fun to watch, even if you don't participate. It is a 5.5 mile flatwater race. And proceeds go to charity, Venture 300 Scout Troop as they try to promote and train paddlers in the state of Arkansas.

This is a video of an overnight paddle on the Buffalo National River in Arkansas in late March of 2012. The 250' waterfall at Hemmed In Hollow appears pretty much as it did when I first saw it back in the late 1960's. If you have ever heard of a "Kewpie Doll", this is where the woman who invented it, Rose O'neil grew up. Besides a long ladder down from the bluff above, the river was their only access to the outside world.

A more professionally produced video of the river giving a bit of it's history and showing the different sections... a bit over 30 minutes long so be forewarned.

Hey Codger ... is it time for a still of moving water in this thread? LOL Practicing shoeshoe survivalist up here wears a little thin with the spring rain mixed with snow and now actual mud - well there are some patches of mud peeking through!

Here's our favourite tarp and net, swimming hole campsite upriver for times when the fire bans are on. Very narrow site backed by
rock cliff. Not wide enough to take the footprint of even my smallest tent. Water is very low late summer - some obstructions but long stretches of paddling in uninhabited Crown Land. Those who want to run the river when it is wild set out in late May.

Tal and Dez on the rocks.
