Paging Eric

...I think the general impression is that INFI is better than SR-101 for most applications (even if only marginally), so why not get the INFI instead?

Once again SR101 way way better in edge holding then INFI. This is my recent test results in more readable format I guess:

1. Dozier heat treated D2.
2. SwampRat SR101 (52100)
3. J.P.Holmes CPM 10V
4. Yuna knives ZDP189
5. Fehrman R3V (CPM 3V)
6. G-Sakai SRS15
7. Kershaw CPM S30V
8. Busse INIFI
9. Benchmade M2
10. Kiku Matsuda OU31
11. Diamond Knives Friction Forged D2.
12. Kershaw Sandvic 1326
13. Fallkniven 3G (SGPS)
14. RosArms 110x18
15. CRKT AUS8
16. Kershaw SG2
17. Benchmade D2

INFI is in the middle while SR101 is on top. So this "general impression" does not match formal test results. Which happened a lot to those "general impressions"... Of course this is "only" edge retention, but this is what I value in knife first. Plus it cost less, plus it tough enough to chops concrete block!

Obvious winner for me.

Thanks, Vassili.

it's the economy. i for one wouldn't dream of selling any of my knives. the recession has hit hawaii too and $$$ is not flowing as it once did in my household. i've watched my retirement drop by 30-40%. so, like many here, i've tried to sell some to get some positive cash flow. it sure is a buyers market!!! i may just close all my for sale theads and let everyone pay full value plus in just a few months.

i think eric and swamprat are doing just fine. i get what i want. let all the hem hawers pay the full markup! snooze you lose!

oh yeah..................................

NO REGRETS!!!

Interesting results... I'm assuming they all had the exact same edge geometry when you tested them.

My father is a full time rancher and has carried 2 different dozier's with D2 steel. His 'real-life' testing on feed sacks, hay-string, etc... found that the Dozier D2 didn't hold an edge very well at all. It dulled faster than his Spyderco Police model in GIN-1 (which is pretty soft steel). He was so disappointed he got rid of the Dozier's.

I am in agreement that we need more SR101... it is indeed a fantastic knife steel. I'd buy a HC in a minute if it were SR101... but I won't own one in the current offering (very disappointing).

If Swamp rat really wants to sell knives, all they have to do is re-release Ratmandu's or some of the older line like the dog-skinner. The Wardens are fantastic also... I'd love to buy more of those.

Most importantly...get rid of the 154-CM...

Get with it Swamp Rat!!! We want MORE! ;):D

OMG, you're killing me here, bro. I have two Doziers and LOVE them both. I actually got rid of my Busse GWs because of those two.

I will say that maybe something was up with your dad's knives (although I find it odd with two knives). I had a custom of 1095 once from a well-respected custom knifemaker who is on BF regularly. Strange enough, the knife felt sharp when I got it, but it cut chicken very poorly. I was like "WTF???". So I sharpened it up and then it cut much better, but only for a very short time. At that point, it seemed to be losing its edge quickly, so I decided to sharpen it up one more time and sell it to someone else. It was quite a disappointment.

Initially, I said I'll never own another knife of 1095, but as time goes by and I am becoming more experienced, I'm wondering if maybe the problem was a bad heat treat or the maker just made it too soft. I'll never know for sure, but I personally have never had trouble with either of my Doziers (knocking on wood).

I think it's a question of having some standard models available more or less continuously.

Get away from all of the one-off ganzas and Blade Show specials.

And if there is a lot of demand for a particular model (someone mentioned the RMD, good example) then make more of that model.

I would love to see Chopweilers,Swamp wardens & RMD's in stock....those are my 3 favorites from SRKW ! The RMD is Classic design and a flawless workhorse of a knife !

 And they have to re-release the old style Ratweiler!!!

...And I have a small G-Sakai SRS15 that will bite you if you look at it crooked! Deceptive.

I wouldn't mind seeing another run of the HRLMs or something large like the Mastiff. It is not in Eric's hands unfortunately, he is a slave to what the shop sends him, that said it would be nice to hear from him and at least find out what this fabled "Rodent" line is all about. At least tell us what is coming down the pike even if it is still a couple months away. People are loosing interest, now with Scrapyard keeping their shelves flowing similar to Busses we need the Swamp to do the same, it only makes sense.

Scrapyard has only been marginally better in that the SOD is really the only "production/available" model. The Mud Puppies, Bird Dogs, and DM variants were all Blade Show or dogbowl specials. Of course, now that I'm typing that out I realize hell, at least they've been making knives.

That is true however they have sworn a new business plan and the way they released the SOD would lead me to believe that they will run it like Busse, meaning they will always have a blade availible in the store. We will see if this is true but I am guessing it is.

I dunno man.

I am pretty sure that my fingernails would hold a better edge than crkt AUS8, and I KNOW that my Benchmade D2 will.

Admittedly it's frustrating to go for weeks on end with no word on new knives. That's why I, for one, applauded the new Scrap Yard business plan (also known as the old Busse Combat business plan) when Dan announced it. I'd love to see Swamp Rat adopt the same plan. But whether or not Swamp Rat ever does that, I have no doubt that there will ALWAYS be lots of demand for Swamp Rat knives, particularly in SR101.

The point is if you want to sell knifes, you have to make some knifes to sell. If people have money to spend on knives they will spend it here or somewhere else.

You know.. I think you hit the nail on the head! It's all about the heat treatment. I've heard that D2 is particularly tricky to treat properly and can be wildly inconsistent depending on the process. Dozier is known as the King of D2... who knows maybe dad just got a couple lemons (maybe same batch of heat-treat)... it happens. Glad you like yours, though. :)

Oh... and by the way, guys... I've seen some damn sharp fingernails! At least VG-10 sharp.
