paper sharpening wheels - when your time is important to you

Recently i bought this CPM-D2 Millie second hand as a user.
It had some blade play (fixed it), some discoloration on the blade (left that) and it wasn't quite sharp (fixed that with the Paper Wheels)

Wow, that looks great. How did you like using the paper wheels? I talked with Richard J about them and really like the idea. I just haven't found a motor yet, lol.

there has been a lot of talk about what speed to run the wheels at. i have used the wheels for over 18 years on a 1725 rpm motor even though i have a buffer i can run up to 5.000 rpm. i have tried running the wheels around 3.000 rpm but ended going back to the lower rpm. the lower rpm will also be more forgiving and not remove metal quite as fast should you mess up. i know the website suggests a high speed buffer but there is no need to run them that fast.

:thumbup:Good to see you posting again Rich, hope you're feeling better.

I was thinking about you too! I hope your feeling better! Glad to see you back Edgey McSharpstuff.:p

thanks guys. i hope the headaches that were keeping me from reading the forums stay away for good but i know that wont happen. i still have a headache but not as bad as they were when i was reading the forums every day.

I was wondering what you were up to, feared the worst and hoped for the best. Glad you are back. Just wondering Richard why PMs don't work for you? For me PMs are better as I can keep forum discussions here separate from the regular email pile.

Anyways, glad your back, I thought you might have jumped ship.

when i had the bad headaches i was trying to stay off the forum so i wouldnt read too much and it was too tempting to read if i logged in to answer pm's. thats why i asked for members to send me an email. i overdone it yesterday but i'm going to try and take it easy from now on (if thats even possible :D).

I have a good screen on this PC, but I find that sitting at the computer is a huge strain on my neck with my arthritis, and the eye strain. I only last about 2 hours at best in the mornings. I limit my time at BF for about half an hour to maybe 45 minutes. That way I can manage the PC time for doing emails and visiting the news and weather sites.

Then I am done with it, any longer and it just leads to headaches neck strain, and of course the work around here just doesn't get done if I am a the PC. :)

i watch tv biggest part of the time which is just to the right side of my pc. i always have a headache but during some winters they seem get worse on me along with everything else. having fibromyalgia that meds dont do anything for doesnt help matters. i just hope that in the next few months when it warms up things get a little better.

Richard,
I was having a lot of problems with headaches/migraines for a lot of years, especially after reading. It would start out with slight eye strain and then get worse and worse, until blazing headache. And this went on for years even after many visits to an eye doctor with my complaints.

Last summer I decided to switch to a different Opthomologists and also switched the eyeglass maker and lo and behold my problems are mostly gone. I think a wrong eyeglass prescription was causing the headaches as I hardly get eyestrain or headaches anymore.

When I do start to feel tired I quit the computer until the next day though, just to be on the safe side. But I can read for much longer periods of time now.

If you haven't already, maybe you should consult a new eye doctor (Opthomologist) and explain what is going on. It may be something simple like happened to me.

i dont think new glasses will help since i can see the screen fine. i think it might have something to do with the fibromyalgia and my eye muscles. my cousin, who has it too, were talking one day about the condition and what all it might effect. i have the same pain when i move my eyes that i have when i move my arms and legs. watching tv isnt as bad as reading since i'm not moving my eyes as much like i would reading.

i would like to thank richard, an awsome guy who took the time to phone me and help me understand paperwheels. i dont even want to know what the long distance call cost you. thanks

i have free ld to anywhere in the 50 states and canada. (at least thats what the phone company told me :D)

Thanks Richard for taking the time to call me. I do like the results with the paper wheels. I used it for an old buck knife that was taking me forever to sharpen. Within a couple minutes, it had a mirrored edge.

thanks again

joe

you cant beat them thats for sure. i think my hands bother me so much from hand sharpenign and from using the ez sharp i used to use. i'll never go back to hand sharpening or any clamp style sharpener.
there is one thing i hated about the ez sharp when it comes to folders and it probably goes for any other clamp type system. most folders dont have a large enough flat to allow the clamp to hold the blade from moving or wiggling which will cause the angle to change while you're sharpening the knife.

good news Richard i found a dealer in Calgary. now i just gotta sell a knife or two so i can afford an 8'' set

I thanked you on the phone but i wanted to do it on here as well Richard. i have my wheels ordered and i am awaiting them anxiously. A big thanks to Mike too for hooking us up at the firehouse:thumbup:. I have only read up to page 12 of this thread:o but in that time i have seen numerous people who you have called to help out, including me. i hope you can get a few hours rest, i cant imagine what have been living with but you still find the time to help out people you have never met before. if it were me i'd probably be the cranky ass neighbor that everyone would try to avoid. thanks again and i will post up on here once i get my wheels. :)
