I know K_Estela has one of these. I remember seeing pictures of it quite a long time ago.

More recently, I remember seeing a picture of Jeff H with one.

I have always struggled with sheath knife carry in cold weather. A layer or two of clothes makes getting to your belt difficult. I have use neck carry, but I am not a huge fan of it.

Now that the weather is getting really close to having us "layer up" I figure I should try one of these out to go over my top layer.

Jeff H helped me figure it out with many links, e-mails and diagrams. I really appreciate it Jeff  I figured I at least owed him a picture or two.

Close up of the knot detail.

I had my son take a shot of it on me. I probably made my a touch "short" but it was on purpose. I experimented with a few different lengths, and I like where this one hangs, even with my thickest jacket on.

When it gets too low, if feels like it is dangling too much for me. Here is my ugly mug with it on.

There is approximately 50' of cord wrapped up in this thing.

Anyone else use this, or something similar for cold weather?

I think that is a gread idea. I'm going to have to try that sometime soon. Like you said, with winter clothes on it's virtually impossible to get to your knife.

great pics brian... i love the tough guy pose...:D i have always been a fan of the baldric, for carrying a fixed blade... they work well especially when wearing a lot of layers...

Man, that looks nice! I have no patience for the knoting though.

Yeah great work. I don't think I have the patience or skill to do that either. I just use a shoulder strap from one of my duffle bags attached the dog clips to a small piece of paracord threaded through the belt loop. Of course, you set gives you all that cordage for survival uses which is pretty awesome!

Great work, I like the set-up..how long did it take to construct it...

It took only a few minutes to measure everything out, and lay it out. Then it took me about 20 minutes of scratching my head and looking at diagrams to try and figure out what I just did :D

After that, the tying seem to go fairly quick. I kind of lost track of time. I am guessing and hour, maybe an hour and half.

Now that I have done one, the whole layout thing seems easy and it would probably go quicker next time......less head scratching, I hope! :D

I do the same thing during the winter. If you rotate the strap a bit with thicker clothing on, you can have the knife stay at mid-chest, so it's like a necker that really isn't, if that makes sense.

That's a pretty cool rig. I just use a piece of 1/2" tubular webbing tied with a water knot through my D-ring sheath.

I think these are a great idea. I have always wanted to try one since Estela posted his "how-to" on the other forum.

Here is a question: Can cord be removed without ruining the functionality of the strap?

Kind of. There are two pieces of cord in the center that set the length. Right now there are two equal length loops on either end. You could feasibly start untying one end, cut some cord and button it back up. The overall length would not be changed at all, and the baldric would still work fine. However, one end would have a 3" loop and the other end would have a longer loop depending on how much cord was removed.

I have another tied with a different knot. This one is more flexible, but IMO not as nice looking. This one can be easily unraveled by starting at one end and pulling (no untying). The difference here is that you will just shorten the overall length, but it would still work.

I'm going to try to make up a Baldric tonight when I get home. Should be a nice way to relax before going to sleep, studying for two tests tomorrow. Then I may try it out tomorrow afternoon if I get the chance to head out on the trail for a while to let my brain recongeal.

This will help you guys tie one of your own. I posted this a while back and I am sorry the pictures aren't better quality.

Awesome Kev. Thanks for the link.

I love a baldric for winter carry. I wear 3/4 length coats, so it makes gettin to your blade a pain sometimes. Nice pics Brian. I need to make me a pracord baldric. I have a braided leather one that works great, but I can see the use for a paracord one.

........At the time I was just a bit worried about seeing my 10lb camera in the hands of a 6 year old! :D

That's funny! I read that in your eye like it was written on your forehead.:D

I got the idea from Kevin myself. Didn't remember the link but would have been hesitant to post it here.:p

As for the "sort of neck carry," these are stiff enough you can reposition them to stay put.

Next, you can do one of these. It too is one piece of cord but I have SO forgotten the ratio on this one and it is critical to get it to come out right. It's a very simple braid that leaves you a "tail" on each end to tie however you wish and it is light, just wide enough to not cut into your neck (with a light knife) and has some "spring" to it. I owe a cople guys some instructions on this one and hope to get time this winter to do a better job of it than what I put Brian through.

My daughter (21 at the time) directed the "poses" and mercifully (for you) omitted my mug.:D

I cannot adequately convey three things...

1. How cool this is.

2. How badly someone needs to do a step-by-step on this for dummies like myself.

3. The extreme nature and length of the stream of profanities my brother let loose with when I sent him a hotlink to this thread and asked him to make one for me because he knows how to do the braid because he has made me ParaCord bracelets and lanyards utilizing the same design/pattern. :D

I really like this method of carry. Here is my rig.

My mate uses a single strand of para cord on his fox river.
