Paramilitary question for Sal....

Is there enough interst in an Orange Military and Paramilitary in their current config without the 4 way clip? We could probably pull off a run of each.

sal

Please? :D

I'd be in for an Orange Para, right after I grab one in D2. Then I'd grab another millie in Blaze orange. Love both of the designs, and I'm hoping to pick up a D2 this week. It'd be great to compare it to my millies. Love the millie, and I'm sure I'd love the para.

I'm guessing that by "stop-lock" you mean back lock? I love my millie liner lock, it's strong and crisp, and I'd hate to lose the open pillar design for a back lock.

Myself, I love the current clip configuration. 4 way would be nice, but I'm ambi, and if gives me a reason to put a knife in my right pocket.

I would also like to add that I dislike Wire Clips of all shapes and sorts. I know lots of people rave about them, and the one on the T-Mag rocks, but really, metal clip on this one Sal.

No, Not a Back lock. The "Stop Lock" is a new original locking mechanism designed by Spyderco

I am not sure exactly how it works. However, i think it the Lock is the Stop pin, and a lever shifts the stop pin, to unlock the blade... i think

Man, I was hoping the new Para was going to lose the compression lock, and hopefully go with the Millie's perfectly executed liner lock. Oh, well. I just picked up another Millie in black G-10, if orange had been available I would have been all over it.

 Interesting. Is it slim like a linerlock? Can it support open pillar construction? What's the weight? I don't quite get the whole idea, but it looks neat.

if you log in you can see a PDF that explains the lock in more detail. It's sort of like a compression lock, except instead of using a piece of the liner to go between the stop pin and blade tang, it uses a little lever type thing that rotates around the stop pin. It looks like externally it would operate similarly to a back lock, except it should be stronger because a closing force would compress the lever between the stop pin and the blade, rather than applying a shearing force too the lockbar.

Wait...

The lock bar is pulled upward and away from the handle?

I dont think that I will be interested in that design.

I've been thinking of getting a para. Making it in orange G-10 would definitely push me over the edge.

The patent covers the lock mechanism, and allows for different ways to release it. The lifting lock bar is one of 2 described in the patent, and others are clearly possible. The advantage of the lifting lockbar is that it makes it impossible to accidentally release the lock when applying downward pressure.

We don't know what type of lock release mechanism Sal will end up using on the forthcoming Military 2.

I would definitely buy both the Para & Mil in orange! Not enough cool colors out there......blue would be so cool too.
