Part 3 of Emerson Q and A is up

Lol, he just likes his apostrophes too much to leave them at home. It's the always-colored text that has me perplexed, really.

T.K.C. is female.
Most female members of the human race don't like the whole "he" and "him" pronouns when referring to them.
This has been a friendly message from the Try to Keep Up committee. ;)

He compared his simplicity and durability of his knives to some grandpa hammers. I wish Emerson knife was so durable to survive ~50 years without damage.

I would have laughed at the thought of a folder lasting 50 years, but then I realized my boyhood SAK is still with me. Granted I didn't do something braindead like baton or stab trees with it. I don't see why his folders thus so shouldn't last a similar period of time. Of course, YMMV, if you sharpen it to a toothpick, well, that's just you.

OT, but I often wonder about the durability of knives with ballbearings and more complex clockwork... fixed blade built well is best, IMO.

The operative word in Part 3 is the over-abused term "tactical". The icon is the "father of the modern tactical knife". He does mention SEALs along with a list of being first in many things!

EE: "I'm not in the knife makers hall of fame. Should I be. I don't know but I don't think I ever will be because I threathened to beat the hell out of a couple of the guys that were actual members and became members because of some things that they did that I felt were immoral and incorrect".

EE has excellent taste in Single Malt Scotch: Macallan 18.

Assuming you like mellow Speysides, sure. I'm more of an Islay fan myself. I serve the Macallan to folks who aren't into single malts, because I don't want to beat them over the head with the peat and smoke of my favorite Islays unless that's their thing.

I didn't know that, consider me corrected (and I have edited my previous comment to reflect the correct gender). I won't do ze/zer/zey/zemselves or whatever, but I'm happy to call hims hims and hers hers. Thanks for the info.

No problem. :)
Other than the male and female pronouns, I don't bother; it changes so often I cannot keep up.

Because of the gender ambiguity of a random forum member or avatar, maybe we should start using they, their, themselves etc... shall we? No his or her. Etc...

Don't laugh. The convention of defaulting to a masculine pronoun on a forum may change with time. Language changes.

No, I'm not serious, but some people are! :D

I'm cool either way. I won't stand for people giving themselves nicknames, though. I worked with a guy who on being introduced to the team said, no joke, "call me Super Kev" (his name was Kevin). Er, how about no?

Doing that would be like calling yourself an icon, you just don't. ;)

Personally, I'm also much more into peaty Scotches like Lagavulin 16, Laphroig 10 and Lagavulin Distiller's Edition. However, Macallan 18 and Highland Park 18 are two other absolute favorites. Variety is the spice.

I've got a lot of knives. I've spent a lot of money on knives. I've spent a decent sum being a gold member here. I was on the fence with an Emerson.

Evil Greg could be construed as the super-villain to the iconic super-hero Ernest Emerson. :)

Was it painful? :D

Depends on the fence. ;)

I was working security for Art in the Park (an art festival) overnight, before the exhibits were all set up.
The cops showed and asked if I had seen anything; there had been a break-in in one of the surrounding homes.
I had not, but I went to look and see what I could while still staying in the park.

Well, the park fences consist of wrought iron spikes about 8 feet tall, connected with ironwork (it is an old historic manor).
I climbed up to see what I could see...and my boot slipped.
My face came within a half inch of the spike!
I was literally 2 inches from putting my own head on a pike for all to see in the morning.

I didn't try climbing the fence anymore. :D

There's a sad irony for all those buying good Kemersons and then thinking that a genuine overpriced and lower quality Lemerson would be the pinnacle.

I have the "Kemerson" trainer.
I disassembled it to round the edges more, and blunt the tip a bit more.

The Kershaw Emersons are lower quality than the genuine article.
Not the Zero Tolerance collaborations, but the Kershaw ones sure are.

Smaller pivots and stop pins.
Cheaper washers.
Lock-bar moves across the tang rather quickly during heavy use (used it a bunch on the heavy bags at the gym, and on my blocking/striking target at home).

Agreed. I've wondered abit if we won't see anymore ZT/Emerson collabs because it hurt Emerson sales somewhat. I mean you can get their collabs for less then most any actual Emerson costs, and with much better build quality and materials.

Perhaps. Kemersons with G-10 and inferior steel sell for 10%-20% the price of a genuine Lemerson.

The bold bits are true. I just serviced my 6K. It was getting stiff and the centering was going off. Cleaned out all the muck, but still can't get perfect centering not it silky smooth. I feel I need new washers. Still, I love this knife, and it's the reason I want a Lemerson or Zemerson.

My 4KXL is still going strong, but it's but a month old, so that's neither here nor there.

I didn't much like the G-10 on the "Kemerson" either.

It's fine for a knife that I am not cutting anything with...although I much prefer the Spyderco Endura trainer.
Of course, it costs more.
Same with my Griptilian trainer, which has seen the most use and abuse of all.

Zemersons are far superior to Lemersons in almost every way. The two issues with Zemersons are that they're relatively heavy and now there's only one production model left.

I personally found the kemerson g10 on the 6K and 4KXL fine, waiting on the 8K to see what that is like. Maybe the 4KXL is the best of the kermerson line. I dunno.
