The Salsa should have arrived at its new temporary home by now. I had it for a couple of weeks (probably longer than I should have) and really enjoyed playing with it. This is a great project that Dave has put together.
I didn't get to put it to the hard use test that I'd planned on -- my wife and I put off the flooring project til this past weekend. We wanted three days in case we screwed anything up in a major way

.
All in all I liked the Salsa, but I wouldn't use is as an EDC. It's way too stubby and wide and takes up too much real estate in your pocket. It's a great weekend/work around the house kind of knife -- more like a small pickup truck than an SUV, if you know what I mean.
The compression lock was pretty cool. I had no problems opening or closing the knife one handed.
Switching the clip from left handed to right handed configuration was much harder than it should have been.
The Cobra Hood does add to the openability of the knife, but is probably bigger than it really needs to be. A small lip on the upper edge of the Spyderhole would be sufficient.
The green coating didn't seem to be as well done as the coating on my Lum Chinese.
I kind of like the Salsa logo -- it makes the knife seem "friendlier."
The AUS8 blade sharpens up nicely. I didn't put it to extreme use, so I don't know how well it holds an edge. But touching it up was quick and easy.
The knife is
very wide. In the front pocket of a pair of jeans, it takes up so much room that it was hard to even get my keys into my pocket. The wide handle does make for a pretty secure grip, so you'll have to decide for yourself if the tradeoff is worth it.
The grip angle is kind of odd. When grip the knife with your fingers in the grooves, your wrist is cocked slightly upward. That makes it difficult to cut with the blade parallel to the ground unless you raise your elbow -- a slightly uncomfortable position.
In short, another nifty knife from Sal and company. It's a great utility knife, but is a little limited for every day carry for me.
Thanks again to Dave for starting this project. I had a lot of fun playing with the Salsa. I hope my comments are helpful, or at least interesting, to those who are considering a Salsa.
