Passaround For WoodKarver

I finally get to carve up a dickens!

Nice spoon YC, I doubt my dickens will look nearly as good.

The Carver is here!Got here yesterday as a matter of fact.
So far no carving by me, but first impressions are...it should do the trick for carving up my dickens.

Pics to come.

Anyone else think John needs to make a spoon knife and sell it and the carver as a set?

Got a nice package in the mail today, it contained the spoon YoungCurmudgeon carved. Thanks, Chris!

You're very welcome. That WoodKarver sure spoiled me in our short time together. I've missed it since I packed it up.

Very nice. Since seeing that spoon I've been researching how to carve one, as well as how to make wooden mugs/straws.
Don't research or think about it to much. Just get a piece of wood and start cutting away everything that doesn't look like a spoon. A mug and/bowl attempt is in my future, also. I think I'm going to need to get some bigger, better wood. The cedar I'm using is to small and knotty that it's hard to find a piece big enough to carve a cooking spoon. But, it's free and just laying around everywhere where we live, so it's what I use for now.

Just put my order in for a woodkarver. I think it will be a fun little knife to have around and allow me to try carving things. Hell, even if I can just get to where I can make a bunch of spoons, I'd be happy! haha

I have carved a dickens!(whew,finally)
Pics are uploaded to Photo Bucket, but PB is f'ing with my head right now so I'm going to go take a shower and try to post pics later.
I did have a great day I will say and the Carver rocks!
Stand by to stand by.....

First off is a glam shot of the JK Wood Carver with the only good Morel I found.

Here's a better shot with the JK Carver.
That's right folks, that's a real deal Dickens right there.;)(Yours will look different no doubt)

I carved the Dickens first to get a feel for the JK Carver then I really put it to the test...
My humble tribute to a great little knife.
It started out bigger, but I kept getting splits and stuff, so I ended up with a scaled down version of the JK Wood Carver.

YC did a great job of sharpening the Carver before sending it to me,(thank you YC  :)) and it excelled at big sweeping cuts and fine light cuts.
I was impressed with the Carvers ability to do the light cuts required while doing the blade and the Carvers ability to hog off big chunks during the initial shaping.
My hand didn't get tired once and the round shape of the handle provided a good grip for the variety of hand positions required.

If this one isn't spoken for then I WANT IT!!
Otherwise I'll order one for myself.Either way I will have a JK Wood Carver.

Anybody else want to give it a go?

That is the sign of a successful pass around, 3 out of 4 that tried it have offered to buy it!

I'm comfortable enough with who I am to say...Nice Dickens.

As to the knife, it is fantastic. I really got spoiled in my short time with it. The shape of the handle allows easy grip changes, from controlled cuts to bulk material removal, and didn't induce hand fatigue. Plus, the blade shape & grind allowed me to "plane" large flats while shaping the spoon blanks and still make controlled turns in the wood. My only change would be to round the spine (and if this one where mine I would have just broken the edges on a stone) to make it more comfortable for my support hand thumb to push against.
I'm interested to see the variants that are planned for the June sale. I'm convienced this could be a very succsessful "family" of knives. And there is something magical, psychologically, about that <$100 price point that this family may be able to tap into.

Email sent with my order.
No variation needed, just tan micarta and red liners.

Order received, thanks! Keep it for a few more days, if nobody else wants in then send it back to me.

Id like to be added to the pass around if possible.
Im interested in the knife for my father. He works with wood everyday doing home repairs and remodels.
He also builds custom furniture, gun cabinets, pool tables, chicken coops, beds, picture frames... you get the idea.

Hes super talented with wood and I would love to purchase one of these knives for him.

Below are pics of a bed he built for my oldest son.
He made it to be a replica of my Jeep YJ. The WORKING headlights are actually from my jeep.
The tires and wheels are from a Polaris Razr.

We had to cut the whole thing in half to fit through the door of my house!

This is it still inside his shop.

Working Headlights!

This is him showing off for the camera
