Passaround

Any chance I could get a pass at that beast up here. If the original owner want I could strip and sand it for the opportunity to give it a go. Someone let me know here or through PM.

Wooo-hooo.
The passaround SHBA has made it home.

Still have the SHSH out on walkabout.

As a college student I love pass arounds they let me check out knives without laying down the big bucks

Its realy cool that you did something like this!

Sorry - not the Friday I meant to be posting pics.
Anyway, the obligatory in-hand pic (if the handle was any narrower, I'd be in trouble from the bird's beak)

Comparison shot between a SRKW M9 and a Condor Hudson Bay Knife (I know, not even close to the same class, but fits the same "size-niche")

Spine and flat comparisons before chopping:

Chopping into a piece of seasoned hackberry -- tough wood, and both blades had a tendency to stick.

The HBK took out bigger chips, mostly due to weight, but the SHSH was easier to control, so depth of cut was similar while the HBK made a wider notch.

Then I carved up a quick bowdrill set (minus the bow) -- the SHSH handled drilling better than the HBK, and was a dream for shaping the spindle and hearth board. I also carved up a quick fuzz stick and used the SHSH like a draw knife to make cedar dust and shavings.

After everything, there was no visible damage to the edge, still plenty sharp.
Very nice knife -- thanks a bunch for giving me the chance to try it out!

not with the kit -- I was grilling some chicken for breakfast (and supper tonight) while I carved the set. Even at 8:30 AM, it's too hot here to be making much fire. :)

Erik,

Thanks for the review and pics.
I'm looking forward to getting "PRECIOUS" back.

dropped her in the mail on the way home tonight - sent you the DC & Ins #'s in a PM.
You should have her back Tuesday.

Passaround complete.
Thanks everyone.
Especially drbarnes for the awsome D-Guard.
