Patch Knife Review

Define thin for the noobie :)
Patch 1/8
EDCII. 1/8
Recluse 1/8
MUK 5/32
Runt 1/8

:)

Thanks for the question Kymedic45.

My personal recommendations on each model are as follows:

Patch - 3/32" SFT or 1/8" tapered are my first choices. 1/8" SFT is fine too. No 5/32" or 3/16" please!

Recluse - 1/8" tapered is my first choice. 1/8" SFT is 2nd. 5/32" tapered is 3rd.

Leuku - 5/32" tapered is my only choice for this model due to weight and balance considerations.

In terms of steel choices, I like A2 for better corrosion resistance and spalting than O1 these days. CPM 154 is great steel also, but beware that the actual thickness from the mills is frequently greater than advertised by .008"-.010". If you combine that with the fact that Andy rarely tapers that material, you will find that SFT CPM 154 knives will be heavier on average than the same model with A2 or O1.

Those are my recommendations. I like knives that are light for their model and good slicers. I am sure that other members may feel differently and prefer thicker steels. There is nothing wrong with that. We each have to find our sweet spot from experience.

Good luck with your decision(s). Keep us posted on what you learn over time.

Thanks,

Phil

This is just another fine example as to why I need to stop reading Phil's reviews. ;) I acquired this little guy a few weeks ago, but have yet to use it. Life is seemingly too busy at the moment.

If you schedule is too busy, feel free to send it to Texas for "field work" on a few whitetails! ;)

Great review Phil. I have a couple and your review has inspired me to include the user in my weekly rotation again.

I love my Patch Knife. One of my favorite all arounders.

And yes, Phil's review helped me take the plunge. :D

1/8" tapered turned out perfect for me.
