Well everyone has been really saying good things about the uniformity of the new swamp comp finish... Now I want to see your version... I want to see your version of the swamp comp finish... I went real deep into the swamp and opened a treasure chest that once belonged to a rum drinking pirate of long ago... I found a $100 Swamp Rat shop credit that we can give to the best Patina on a Swamp Comp blade ... So get imaginative and send us pictures of your patina... We here in the swamp will look at each picture we receive before Memorial Day and pick a Winner of the $100 in shop credit.. Good Luck... Let's Ride...

Not on swamp comp, it was satin, but just in case this thing opens up....

what I am excited about is seeing the Mega Ratweiler pics with that beautiful Swamp Comp finish before and after patina pics.

I doesn't have one in SwampComp finish...a couple of strippers, and Satins is all.
<spits on silly shiny satin things, then kicks them>

Here's a Mega Ratweiler in Swamp Comp... patina'd with Frenchy's Yellow Mustard and White Vinegar. :D

I can't wait to try putting a patina on the eRATicator!:p
I wonder what will that SR-77 bring us?
And I haven't decided how, or whether, to do a pattern. The only think I've decided is that I'll try the hot vinegar suggestion I got ;)

Here was the original "First Attempt" at patina with the Mega Ratweiler:

(the "HOT" salame was not at all "hot", but much tastier than the "sweet"!)

I don't know if it is the knife or the salami but this pic is making me hungry. Ok I'm pretty sure it's a combination of the salami and its breakfast time but ill blame it on the tasty looking patina there in the pic.

Maybe it'll develop more over the next couple weeks.

that's a nice one.

Meat is the best because of iron. Keep cutting meaty stuff, chicken, red meat etc. Thatll fill right in.

I wont be able to play until my warden shows up.

I'll just have to root from the sidelines.

For sure! I can't wait for my Wardens either!

I'll have to keep cutting meat .... And it seems temperature matters a lot. Cold meat doesn't seem to form the patina as much. I carved and sectioned a raw pork shoulder a few weeks ago with a 10" 52100 chefs knife and it barely did anything to add patina.... But my other small 6" 52100 chef got a great looking patina after just cutting a cooked pork tenderloin fresh out of the oven.

I wonder if it's the temperature of the meat or the temperature of the knife/steel that matters? What if I preheated the knife? Or what would happen if I stabbed a roast and put the whole thing in the oven, knife and all? o_O

Well, option number three would fuck the heat treat I'd bet. So dont do that.

I'd go with cooked meats, room temp knives.

Awesome, Timmy!

I did a leftover meats lunch as well.
This is on a Rodent Trail. Not exactly Swamp Comp, but Swamp Satin... Will it count?
