Photos Patina thread

I used the old cracked marble #73 to slice some pepperoni pizza the other night, adding some grays and blues to the blade. Kinda matches the handle, eh?

Bob, that's unique . . . patina bubbles???
Probably droplets of whatever caused the patina in the first place. Part of patina-izing ;-) is reacting with air so if there is no air available, that spot won't patinia-ize. Often we see rings that are much darker than the rest of the patina, too. Not sure how that works, though.

Hey, question. I have this awesome GEC Cattle and the main blade is just gray with many faint layers of multicolor that I can only see when I angle it with the light just right. The multicolor looks like that rainbow effect on motor oil though the blade is gray, not oil-black.

Which leads to my question. It seems to have stopped gathering up any colored patina, now. I have tortured it with mustard, coffee, coffee grinds, vinegar, meat, cucumber, lemon, and it stays the same, now.

Not a problem, I am just wondering what happened that caused it to stop reacting? Nothing I do now will alter it. So weird.

Is that an awl? How useful is that for you? Just wondering.
If you like to do stuff at home, fixing things or be creative it is pretty useful I guess.

Compared to the similar Angus Jack
I like this one from M&G better as the punch/awl sits significantly lower in the handle than the Angus Jacks pen blade making it a more pleasurable experience to use the M&G knife.

Let's also be honest and admit to the fact that it's a cool factor as well - that punch looks really, really good.
