Patriotic Themed CRKs

The wait for a custom order is a pain, but can be worth it. I liked being able to send in your own design rather then picking one that already exists. If you don't go damascus it's only a few months. Here's a somewhat patriotic one (well, it's Air Force) I had done.

If you're insistent on damascus and don't want to wait you can order a custom normal. Then buy a plain damascus on the for sale section, and then swap the face. *shrug* You'll then have a damascus custom and a plain normal blade. Of course, your birthday cards won't match and all but if you don't care it's doable. Just be sure you have the same version (ie 21s).

I like the way you think. I was thinking if it in terms of a blade swap, not realizing all that's required is swapping the one side. No fitment issues doing that?

How do they get red if not paint?

I thought you could anodize Ti gold, green, blue, purple - heat anodizing.

Are they using some chemical bath ano to get the red???

Heat "anodizing" isn't anodizing. No anode...and no cathode. ;) CRK anodizes in an electrolytic bath. Different voltages produce different colors. In the old CRK DVD, there's a really fun section where they show the steps involved in getting the various colors on a single knife by adjusting the voltage and working up through the colors.

Are all these short runs dealer exclusives? Group buys? How does one get in on such awesome knives?

I have one of these (small):

I bought the only Ole Glory that I could find anywhere. It doesn't have a Damascus blade, but I figured I'd better grab it while I can.

I also was fortunate enough to score a Sebenza 21 with ladder Damascus and carbon fiber panel on the forum here.

My plan was to put the Ole Glory front scale on the Damascus knife, as mentioned earlier in this thread. However, I'm fearful that might actually hurt the value of one or both of these knives. They would no longer match their birth cards. Should I really care about that or not?

I eventually hope to land a Starts and Stripes, and perhaps a current model Glorious. I'm just disappointed that Glorious isn't available in CGG with color.

My opinion only, I'm sure others feel differently. It depends on what/how you collect. If you plan to put the damascus blade on it and then stick them both in the safe and never look at them again then yes it'll hurt the value. To sell them you'd have to put them back together correctly and they would no longer be "mint." So you'd take a hit. Very few folks would want to buy them with swapped hardware and incorrect paperwork. But, if you're more interested in carrying/using you damascus/Glory knife then not a big deal. Carry and use it. If you do someday sell then swap the pieces back and list them as used.

As I said, my opinion. I'm sure some purists would freak out if you did this. But I think it'd be cool. :)

Value to you? It sounds like one would increase, but the other would decrease.

Value to others? Post up a sale for such a knife and see how many inquiries you get, then do the same with a non-modified CRK and I think it will become evident.

Functionalilty? I have heard that you can purchase front scales from CRK, if this is true, it would seem that CRK feels confident that swapping presentation scales does not impact lock fit/functionality...so IF that conjecture is true....

Carry and use the Damacus/CF, send the Ole Glory in to be fitted for a damascus blade.
I was thinking something along those lines. I think I will carry and use the Damascus/CF knife. That will be a nice warm combination that won't show wear. Leave the Ole Glory as is. I want it more as a collector and want it to be legit. If I ever stumble across one with a Damascus blade, I can always upgrade. So, I'll be watching for that, as well as a Stars and Stripes.

I appreciate everyone's input.

CRK actually suggested that I do this when I was investigating getting a custom done and balking at the long wait time actually. So they have no problem with it.
