Pay it forward 8 - "THE OCHO"!

On the topic of knife making... I may be able to salvage a few small plates of 1/4" 6061 aluminum (about the size of a smartphone) from the scrap bin at work. Could be used for handles/scales and such. Any interest?
No promises though, since the scrap bin is still technically company property. I may have to do some paperwork to get them for anyone who needs them.

I would very much like two or three pieces if they could be had.

nopyo I would be interested on some handle scale sized pieces if you are able to retrieve them. Would you be able to get and thicker for maybe a push tang? Not trying to push it but it would be much appreciated. Thanks

I tried to find some pieces for you two yesterday, but the scraps were recently emptied. I'll still keep an eye out.

Multitool is still up and I'm at the post office. If you need a multitool, speak up now please.

RemyKaze- would it be OK if I took dibs on that multitool if noone has claimed it yet? I'm a bit reluctant to actually claim it until I pay something forward (I'd like to stay on the positive side of things), which I will try to do in next few days.

I'm considering asking a colleague at work (I work on CNC mill and he operates the 'old school' lathe) to make me a few brass signets for personal use (I've been tempted to retire the one I use currently, and can't decide between two designs I like, so why not have two :p). I guess I could ask for one more if anybody's interested in one (you'd get a blank and would have to have whatever you want engraved on it later on)- if they're inclined to send letters in proper, old school way.
You're good man, it's yours. I might have to ship it tomorrow. I just left the PO. Email me your address.

Yeah, it's factory grivory, but as Jerry D pointed out, the blasted handles give a nice solid grip without being rough. It's not as aggressive as stippling, but works just fine. The only thing someone might not like about them is the color, which is now more grayish than black. I think it's kinda cool, but maybe not everyone thinks like I do (god I hope not:D)

NOT interested in these as a claim, please send them to NYOutdoors, or whoever you see fit, but I am interested in seeing a pic of them before they get sent out. I have been eyeing the "standard" Micarta scales for my BK7, but love to see options.

I sent you an email about the gold membership if you would like to send it now

It will take a few days but you should see a change in your profile. If it hasn't been updated by this Friday or so let me know and i will send you the order number to post in the Tech Support forum.

Does anyone remember where you change to gold status once it has been processed?

Click on settings. On the left, under My Settings, click on Permission Groups. Click on the (identify me as a member of this group) tab for that membership, and then click Update.

I do alot of working with HDPE, just for the sake of having a knife-related conversation mind if I ask why your wanting poly scales vs. something a little more standard?

Maybe he means for liners?

No no, I meant for scales.

I'm a big fan of there poly orange scales on my Svord Peasant, to have that material on my BKs would be the perfect knife for me.

With the little texture to them, they don't slip (feels good when wet), high visibility with brighter colors (orange micarta ive seen has a nasty cloudy look to it from the resin or fabric used), durability (read durability/longevity), and sanitation (won't absorb blood/chicken juice)

I seriously need to write this down somewhere. Thanks!

I forget who it is but there is a thread where a knifemaker does a test to see how absorbent micarta is, he uses gas and a couple of solvents and the amount according to him is negligible. In my own experience I have found the same, I just wash ny entire knife off when it is dirty and I have yet to see any staining or residual smells, plus I havent died or anything either.... in case that is worth anything to you.

Whet, I just remembered that your package has been sitting on my front porch for a couple of hours,

Im gunna go open it up :D

Ok so here it is again. I am copying this from the last PIF. Ok folks, I have another PIF, but it's not a knife as I've thinned out the knives that I currently have to ones that I actually use.

I'm offering free Resume preparations and advice to (edit: (2)) forum members. As background, I work for the NY office of one of the largest capital markets and communications advisories in the world. Part of what I do for the Company is recruiting new hires and running the internship program for the NYC office. Outside of this I provide counsel to the CEO's of public listed Companies.

Because of my role as a recruiter for my firm, I look at a few thousand resumes a year. I can take your resume, word smith and then provide any helpful input. I can help explain the resume and what people like me do with resumes and what will and won't make a resume stand out to us. I would like to think that I'm pretty ok at doing this kinda stuff. i.e. Some quick notes about resumes. Remember, resumes quite often are your one and only shot at getting a job interview, if you botch it, you might not get another crack at it. All that counts with resumes are that you get your resume from the big pile of resumes that will go into the garbage and into the little pile of resumes and then off to an in-person interview. So in that spirit, as humble as you are, you have to show off, what you are capable of. That's pretty much the skinny of it.

I just finished up one forum member' resumes and I think I helped another forum member out enough that they are giving their existing resume another go on their own. I am currently working with one other forum member to create their resume over. So I have the capability right now to take on two more resume projects, I can offer advice or do the overhaul. You can go back to the old thread and track down the forum members to see how I did with theirs in case you need empirical proof. Otherwise just get in contact with me and I will be glad to help in any way.

I'd love to give out another knife, but I don't have any more extras so this is what I can do if it helps out a forum member. :)

Hey everyone, I just wanted you all to know that Chris's PIF was awesome! He redid my resume (basically from scratch) and a Cover letter. He did it fast, great communications back/forth and they both look great so I wanted you all here on the PIF thread to know how great of a job he did and it is much appreciated by me. He is a class act!

Keeping with the spirit of the PIF, I ask him if he needed anything and he said he was thinking about a certain item (a MT) to play around with so I have a NEW one on its way to me and once received, I will forward it to him.

Thanks! :D
