Pay It Forward -- it's been a while

420 from Buck is a great steel. Easy to sharpen. Paul bos heat treat is one of the best.

This has been a long time coming . I FINALLY got back from vacation last night and was able to spend some time messing with the buck vantage. My first impressions are wow this things action is incredibly smooth. I'm not sure if it's just this one and you having broken it in or if they all are that way. Maybe someone here could let me know. I ran it over a sharp maker and it came out hair popping sharp in no time. Curious about the edge retention again if you or anyone on here had more experience with vantage 420hc I'd love to know. Great size a little heavy but not unmanageable. Can't wait for some more EDC time with it to see. I wish I could post pictures of it being used for the tasks I will do with it but I don't have a photbucket account etc. Also the deep carry pocket clip is absolutely perfect I haven't had one in this design and I think it maybe my new favorite style. On a side note,if edge retention is an issue with 420hc but they all are this smooth than I can definitely see me buying an avid or the next level and putting this one back up. At the very least for someone else to get the opportunity I have been given. Thanks Bear! I love this forum. Now to make some time to dig up something. Thanks again.

I'm glad you like it. Edge retention is pretty good on Bucks 420. The Hornady edition is a little heavier than the standard vantage because it has a steel backspacer and the standard vantage has a plastic one. If you like that one, the pro with S30v is well worth the investment. I had one a few years ago that I had to sell for some quick cash when my oven died right before Thanksgiving. I haven't replaced it yet but will eventually.

Better pic of the first knife.

This one I broke the tip about 8 years ago and had used a bench grinder to reshape the blade. He did an amazing job of cleaning it up

Thanks for the feedback Bella,Makel, and of course Bear. I'm so impressed with this knife and the prospect of.good edge retention makes it that much more. Just thinking the pro version is even better. I'll almost definitely have to save up for that one. Is the action smooth on all of them as well? This one has a free taking blade when the liner is pushed out of the way and still no play.

Hey, glad your pleased with them. Despite being made of mystery steel they both took a great edge.

No more chopping rocks with the big one now ya hear!?!

I was agreeing with keeping the claims public in the thread rather than via email or PM.

The value for value PIF is at the discretion of the person offering. I think that making that mandatory turns the thread into a swap meet rather than a gifting forward thread. I say to take as you need and give as you can is a good motto if followed.

Very well said Neko and I agree 100%.......this isn't a swap meet. I don't care if I give a $100 Spydie and the person who claimed it gives a $15 SAK.
I've given a few and haven't claimed anything and I'm fine with that....

Thanks a lot sabre. I sent email sorry for the late response.

Looking forward to using it. Feel naked without a decent knife between framing and fishing a lot. It's my tool and safety net. I know they don't make for the best self defense weapon but it sure does give peace of mind. I been carrying a knife since a kid like that.

I'm working on saving up for a new switchblade and balisong knife. Most likely a benchmade one. It's my short term goal.

That's the tricky part about the vantage line. They're not all that smooth, but most of them can be with a little tweaking. Of all the ones I've had I can't ever recall one that was particularly bad. Usually a cleaning, lube and proper pivot adjustment gets them pretty smooth.

Inconsistency is definitely a concern but if it's a simple as you say to get them straight. I'm definitely in for trying a couple. I think you may just sparked another addiction to a specific blade manufacturer. I'll keep u posted.

I'll offer up a never used or carried Mora, I did sharpen it and it's by far one of my sharpest knives I have currently.

Arrived today. I almost didn't give it to my son. I got selfish.

I did give it to him and he is above the moon. We are going to use it to trim up some ribs for the smoker this weekend.

Thanks again, Seneca,
Jeff

Looks like the Yellowjacket is yours. As soon as you PM or email me your address I will try my best to get it out as soon as I can.

I received the Yellow Jacket today and it's really nice; bigger than I expected, which isn't a bad thing at all. Sharp, functional and good looking. I'll definitely enjoy using it. Thanks again!

(Apologies for poor quality photos. iPod camera wasn't cooperating.)

I received the manix 2! Amazing knife. If I ever decide that it isn't right for me, you will see it back here on the forums in this gaw!

First up from what I'm going to call the Colorado Lot. Joint venture between myself and fellow forum member Colorado. His knives, my edge.

A spectacular knife. An Opinel No. 10.

20160711_172154_zpslyerqmg6.jpg

Hair whittling sharp of course with a T.L.E. edge and ready to find a new home.

I'd like this to go to someone who's either never had an Opinel or at least has never owned a No. 10. It's a big knife, see the Delica for scale. Whomever claims it will have to cover shipping. There's going to be a good number of blades go up and I just can't cover shipping on them all.

Note: Spyderco Delica is not up for grabs. I just got it and I don't share.

Also up from Colorado:

A Fossil watch. No, I didn't sharpen it.

20160711_172439_zpsvfop8ucv.jpg

Looks like it wasn't worn much. Not a lot of visible wear
Crystal is nice and clear and it's ticking away.

Claimant must cover shipping.

NOTE: This is for someone who either likes their watch bands quite tight or whom has slimmer wrists. It barely closes on my wrist.
