I would have jumped in. I have been watching but stay lurking. I got a bad impression when someone refused to pay it forward to another person. I don't know anyone involved but it seems to go against what I thought the purpose was. Give with no expectation of return... I also have watched a bit of self back patting... I want to start the next thread because my contribution has been so much. I got turned off to the idea when it stopped smelling like generosity and started to seem as a contest.
Just why I haven't joined in.

I have also seen a bit of such stuff. I didn't really see it as a problem. Lets see what kind of reaction you get. . .

I can understand some hesitance to participate. FWIW my experience is that the VAST majority have given with no expectation of receiving anything. Also there has been a great deal of giving behind the scenes, with no recognition asked for, and in fact anonymity being requested by the "giver". And those are the situations I am aware of, who knows how much is going on no one knows about. These threads have regulated themselves remarkably well, just one guys opinion.

Different people have different ideas about greed. Likely what you were seeing was a choice made based on the person constantly trying to snag items past the point of decency without keeping the thread alive. I regret that people have to police their offerings in this way, but everyone agreed on having no official rules, and everyone setting their own terms.

I think in terms of who is starting the threads, it helps to know that the person has established themselves as someone who has not been taking advantage and has been contributing. This person is more likely to be fair and agreeable. Anyone can start a thread, as has been done by a guy already seemingly looking to scam some people out of knives. At this point it is easier and simpler for someone who has been in these threads giving items to others to start new threads, avoiding confusion of multiple threads by general consensus of who goes next.

If you disagree with any of that, it is fine and welcome. Just saying it has worked very, very well for 7 or so threads. Also, feel free to jump in, give away what you wish with no terms or conditions. It works both ways, as in you can set many conditions or none. Dont let how others choose to handle things determine your own methods. Kudos. :thumbup:

Remy, what were you talking about when you said that someone else started a thread to scam people? Was there a fake PIF thread?
