Pay Pal Only.........

For us Internationals Paypal is the only viable option. There are a number of knives that I missed out on because the seller only wants a MO or cleared cheque. I don't care.......I just move on.

A quick story........When I first began buying on BF in '08 I did a deal with someone but I could not get the payment through to them on PP no matter how hard I tried.
I eventually called PP in the US to ask what the hell was going on? The gent on the end of the phone said something like......

"Sir I cannot tell you why the payment has not gone through, for security reasons, but I can say that it has NOTHING to do with YOUR account."

I read between the lines, cancelled the deal and moved on. Paypal actually protected me by not allowing my payment to continue.

Nothing in life is perfect, but MANY PP transactions later I have nothing to complain about.

I've never had a PP account and don't want one. No need to go into why other than to say I don't like their policies. However, for everyone who uses PP because of the convenience and security I would like to know something - do you always send and receive payment on forum transactions as being for goods? Or do you ever choose to skirt the fees, and give up said security if something goes wrong, by using the gift option?

Goods. Paypal deserves to get paid and the security that comes with it is always worth the peace of mind.

I like to honor agreements, because when I make an agreement with someone I would like them to respect my terms. If I do not like said agreements, I dont weasel my way out.

@Topic

I don't like money orders because of the hassle of driving, cashing, with no middleman.

Paypal is more like an insurance. You pay them their fees, and when crap goes wrong they will try to do what is right and fair.

The USPS Money Order ONLY policy has worked for me longer than I can remember (both buying and selling). It's no more inconvenient buying a USPS money order than it is cashing one, of for that matter..., checking your mail. And..., you don't have to worry about fraud because MAIL FRAUD is a FEDERAL OFFENSE. IMHO, you can't get much more "secure" than that!!!:D

Whatever the reasons that's the guideline they set for their sale. Comply or move on. Asking for PayPal only is no stranger than you insisting on paying only a money order. You got your reasons and they got theirs but get used to losing out on opportunities

I don't know about all that. What I do know is that PayPal is a necessary evil. But just because they're convenient and I have to use them doesn't mean I trust them. That's why I never leave money in my PayPal account longer than it takes to transfer it to an online checking account that's separate from my primary checking account. It's also why I always use a credit card to make PayPal purchases.

As my own story indicates, how bad a crime it is, doesn't stop people from doing it. At least with paypal, paypal itself will work to rectify the situation. I'm 3 years into waiting for a resolution from my money order fraud case - and while it will be nice if they catch the guy and send him to jail, it doesn't pay me the money I was owed 3 years ago, or return my goods to me. *shrug*

Then tell me where anybody Has faced their wrath and faced justice. In all the years on the forums I've not heard anybody report an arrest or recovery of money or knives due to a complaint and in fact people are getting ripped off at an all time high on here. What about akk these hall of shame people? A lot of them involved some sort of mail fraud

I wish more people would pay with MO.

I'm not a fan of PP, but it's a necessity.

I can't see why someone would not trust a money order. Simply put that in and of itself is like not trusting a guaranteed check. It's money in your hand like any other form. As far as not having paypal, many people don't and for various reasons. The fact that paypal tries to operate across the planet implementing California state laws has rubbed manypeople the wrong way, in cluding a lot of online vendors. Another reason people might not want it is because it is illegal to purchase firearms with it. But for knives on the forums, it's simple, quick, and very easy. I don't have a problem though going to the post office and buying a money order or sending funds via paypal.

Never happened here, but I am primarily a buyer, and PP has saved me from several frauds, counterfeits and rip-offs over the years. If I have a problem, I submit a dispute, provide my evidence and PP refunds me the money. They even provide a pre-paid shipping label for me to send the junk back to the Seller.

If I paid by any other way (except possibly credit card), I would not have this protection. I think legit Sellers should see this as beneficial to a smooth & safe transaction.

I had paypal when ebay was not as big as they are now. ebay will not let me sell switchblades so I found some where else to sell them but I didnt take paypal for the but the stuff that I was selling on ebay I was. paypal found out I was still selling switchblade and told me to eather stop selling them or they where going to close my accout. I drain my paypal accout. changed bank account and the same bank and then I closed my paypal account. problem solved.

This kind of thing is why I refuse to deal with PP, and of course don't forget their vehemently anti-firearm policies. I realize that it will at times affect my available choices when it comes to buying or selling on forums, but that is acceptable to me to avoid supporting this "prohibition by proxy".

It's ironic to me that you're in Canada...

Sometimes I will use the gift option if its a trusted member with good feedback especially if I feel they are giving me a good deal.

If I buy: I prefer to pay with paypal but will also pay with a USPS Money Order if the seller has good feedback or we have had previous dealings with one another.

If I sell: Both paypal (purchase of goods option) and USPS Money Order are offered as forms of accepted payment. I have about 30 steps from my office to the Post Office so for me the trip is a short one. There is also the added benefit of being able to cash the money order at the Post Office rather than at the bank and waiting for it to clear.

That said, I can understand why sellers will only accept one form over the other, as well as why buyers will only pay using a single method. It comes down to personal preferences.

It is illegal? or against PayPal rules?

I know I'm in the minority not using PayPal,
U.S.P.S. Money Orders or checks have always worked fine for me.
