Paypal Claim - Anyone Has Experiences to Share?

I recently made an order online (online store) for a fixed blade and almost a month has passed and I've yet to receive it. I've had many transactions during that month and all the knives (from eBay sellers and BF members) have arrived safely in Singapore. In fact a knife that was detained by our local customs (they thought it was a flick knife) has already been released to me so it's unlikely that it is stuck with customs. I filed a dispute with PayPal on the 2nd of September and after 5 days of no response from the seller I filed a claim.

Does anyone have any experience with such matter? Did PayPal address your grievances? Did you get all the funds back? How long did the matter take to be resolved?

They will adress your issue, but you are supposed to start with a back and forth with the person you bought it from. Then it will escalate from there ending with PayPal making a decision on who is at fault. They will need proof they sent it and if they have proof it was sent/received you can lose. Even if you didn't get it.
With the seller not responding to the initial dispute you filed, you should ultimately be issued a refund by PayPal out of the store's account. Good Luck!

Pay attention to the deadlines. I missed one and they summarily dismissed my claim and I had to resort to other means of redress.

I filed a PayPal claim for an Undelivered $200 knife. PayPal recovered $10.41 and closed the claim.

If there's no money in the Sellers Account PayPal can't do anything.

The dispute was with me.

The knife shipped. We cannot speed it up.

I only hope you will have enough integrity to pay for the knife when it arrives.

BTW--you don't have to worry about the money. Paypal has already secured it for you. And we would have taken care of you if the knife were not delivered anyway.

I hope it arrives soon.

I just want to add something here: Derrick is a stand-up guy.
About 6 months ago my wife ordered a Bark River from his store as a present for me. At the time we were traveling and had to rely on the tracking information to know whether the knife had been delivered. After a couple of weeks, tracking info was still showing it as undelivered so we filed a claim through PP and Derrick immediately refunded us.
When we finally got back home, we discovered that the knife was there waiting for us and that the mailman had simply made a mistake, not registering properly the delivery information. Of course we immediately paid Mr. Bohn for the knife.
What I want to say is that he will make it right, just be a bit more patient than we were at the time.

I appreciate you coming out like this, it isn't necessary and I had no intention of bringing up the your name or that of your store. If the knife arrives rest assured I will pay for it. I have no intention of getting a free lunch but do try to understand my situation, it had just taken too long and frankly I just wanted it settled. I trust I have been polite and reasonable during all communications and have not badmouthed you or your store in any way. You have an outstanding reputation here and I'd like to keep it that way.

Thanks for all the replies from BF members. I'll leave it to PP to settle the claim and we'll take it from there. This is my first experience with an item that has not shown up after such a long period. All my items from the US have arrived within 10-14days, with surface mail it takes 21 days max. I do not doubt your integrity especially with the good reputation that you have built for your store but am inclined to believe that the US postal service may have bungled up the delivery. I will make right if it arrives but do inform me if it somehow get returned to you.

Not always true, they tried feeding me that line of BS and I laid it on them. For them to tell me (a honorable user of their services) that basically a person with no rep can blatantly steal from me is F-ed up & I told her, she put me on hold, returned, than refunded me.

Now I will add, paypal can take the slippery road and not honor your refund in whole if it was not purchased on ebay. If you send a direct payment without using ebay than the people I talked to said it is not fully covered if a problem were to arise. So, if any of you ever make an offer to a seller by telling them to simply allow you to send the $ directly to ther account so you or the seller can save on fee's, think again, paypal wont cover you in full if you had a problem. If that isnt the case than I mis understood multiple paypal employees. One nice worker actually told me to use a credit card (something paypal doesnt like) when buying through paypal. She said even if I cant get my $ back through them that more than likely the Credit card company will not let you get hosed.

The way I see it is this: if you pay for an item with PayPal, regardless of whether it is on eBay or not, then you are protected by PayPal if you do not receive it. It is up to the seller to have proof of delivery. That is why many people refuse to ship abroad, there is no tracking or delivery confirmation available for many countries and then it becomes your word against the buyer's.

Someone purchased an ipod mini from me a few years ago, and asked me to ship via ground (no tracking).

Being the idiot that I was, I proceeded and after he received it he filed a dispute. Since I had no proof, he got his full amount back.

>:(

You are protected to the extent Paypal decides.

They have zero oversight or accountability to anyone other then themselves.

loneriderz, here's an experience I will share about shipping. I once bought a $600 folder. the maker shipped USPS Priority, and I waited the usual 2 weeks. nothing arrived. I waited another 2 weeks. still nothing. I told the maker that it usually wouldn't take so long and did he have a tracking or registration no. He said no, the clerk at the PO didn't give it to him (it's a small PO in a small town that will close if no one uses their services). He said he would make me a replacement.

guess what? the knife arrived after 3 months. packaging was perfect. it just decided to take a trip somewhere.....before making up its mind to come home to its new owner.

sometimes the weirdest things happen. it may just show up.

good luck.

I just remembered PayPal doing the right thing and refunding a purchase of mine.

I donated $250 to the Fred Thompson Presidential Campaign via PayPal and the next day he dropped out of the race. I filed a PayPal claim for “Failure to Deliver” and got my money back.

Thanks Ken, I hope it shows up too. I'm planning on an 8 day backpacking trip and thinking of bringing this particular piece, my first fixed blade. Just odd that it hasn't arrived but I guess it is possible that the knife went on a more roundabout trip than normal. Anyway I ordered another piece off eBay from my regular seller whitemountainknives, a bit more expensive but I just need it to get here soon. As for the knife I'm waiting for, I'll settle the matter whichever comes first; the claim or the store should it appear. If I ever buy a 600 dollar folder I'd probably ask for USPS Global Express... LOL

I have filed several PayPal claims over the years and I have been repaid on all of them except for one which the seller kept delaying me with emails until the filing time expired.

I think that Paypal errs on the side of buyers since they now offer buyer protection on most transactions, but they will drop your case if you file after the time limit (45 days I think).

I'm about to go through this process as well. Shame when stuff like this happens. :(

I used to sell on Ebay quite a bit and have been defrauded both as a buyer and seller. PayPal did little or nothing about it. It felt like dealing with a nightmarish government agency at its worst. If you used a credit card, your best bet is to handle the charge-back through them.
