I sold a knife today and the buyer used paypal which I had already figured into the price.. til I get a:
Cross Border Fee: -$8.06 USD

WTF? They'll get you any way they can. Why not a per State that it passes through fee? Or a It'll really make it there fee? Grrr. :thumbdn: If this is the biggest problem I have today I'm still ok though I spoze:o .

The $8.06 fee was in addition to the 4% fee that Paypal charges for non-US payments? Ouch!

Yep. Here what Paypal has to say about it:
A cross-border payment is a payment where the sender and recipient are in different countries. The cross-border payment fee is applicable to Business and Premier accounts receiving a payment from someone in a different country.

Not really a "Why we can" but more of a "Hey, we can".:thumbdn:

I bet I have at least 4 Canadian brothers/sisters every day wanting to know if I wlll sell something to them. Just like the brother has pointed out with all these ridiculous hidden fees, higher shipping cost, customs forms and just a bushel basket full of pure hassle. 3 weeks ago I have made all of my Ebay auctions USA only. It's not that I wouldn't like to deal with good people over the globe but the politics of it all coupled with this Paypal nonsense just makes it not worth the trouble.

I just recently sold a Benchmade Boguszewski Spike to a guy up on Ontario. I even talked to him on the phone. Seemed like a very nice guy and knowledgable on knives too. But I couldn't get a confirmed Paypal address and customs hit the poor guy with almost 40% of what the knife was worth. This utter insanity just has to stop

But now they even add insult to injury with a border crossing fee. They way it's going they are going to end up taking about 45% of each transaction. It's really kind of a "damned if you do>>damned if you don't type deal

Paypal is a big fat rapist, but I just accepted two payments this morning, so I guess I'm an enabler. With out of country deals, I'm just glad that the buyers get the sharp tings.

Thanks for posting this. I just sold a knife on Ebay and a guy from Canada ask about it. I figured there would be some hidden hassles so I said no. I had no clue it would be that bad.

without paypal geting a payment from the UK would be a huge headache, I'm not saying it doesn't suck to get charged all the fees, but at the end of the day how are you gonna get money from the UK, wait forever for an international money order to show up? Also, did they just start this? I've completed over 300 transactions on there, including selling a knife to someone in Thailand and I don't recall that fee....

Is that a fairly recent development? I've shipped to several other countries, and have never had a cross border fee, even when I've shipped halfway around the world.

How does Paypal know where you're shipping anyway? You're not obligated to ship to the verified address, unless you want the paypal protection stuff.

Smells like bull **** to me, yet another fee they'll stick you with.

What are the fees for Western Union?

Anyone deal with Bidpay?

What are their fees?

Perhaps they are a viable alternative.

Bidpay is no longer.....
Effective December 31, 2005, BidPay.com, Inc. will be discontinuing operations. As a result, BidPay will no longer offer payment services to the online auction industry. We regret any inconvenience to our users and thank them for their loyal patronage. There is a Radio show I listen to. The host said to one of his callers that Bid Pay which is a division of Western Union is broke for all intent and purposes. He also advised the caller not to fool with them. Also Another guy I traded a knife with recently told me that he had it and It was even more expensive than Paypal. You would think that someone would be competing with these other services by now:confused:

International money orders from the Postal Service are $3.75 for up to $700. I don't know how much it would cost for someone outside of the United States to send you a money order though.
