Paypal, gotta love it.

can anyone confirm if there is such rape for US/Canada payments? I haven't had any trouble yet, but then I'm also not a confirmed address.

I just checked a payment I got from a guy in Canada tonite. Yeah, the Paypal charge was a little higher than with payments from guys here in the States, but I didn't see any Border Cross Fee. I guess I'll have to keep an eye open for that. If Paypal starts charging me a border cross fee, then no more outside of USA sales for me either.

Jeezzz. Just when I was getting used to our "global economy"....

I had to login to Paypal and hit the Details button on the transaction itself to see the fee breakdown. YMMV.

Look into the details of their charge to you. You'll find it. I got hit with it when I sold a watch to a person in Canada. Surprised me too.

This is info from their site:

Getting Started - Fees & Limits

What are the fees to receive payment from a different country?

To receive a payment from a different country, Business and Premier accounts are charged a cross-border fee. This fee applies to all types of cross-border payments, including Instant Purchase and PayPal Website Payments Standard . That fee is included within the cross-border payments tiers. See our Transaction Fees for Cross-Border Payments page.

Canadian sellers:
This cross-border fee is currently waived for Canadian sellers receiving payments from U.S. buyers.

U.K. sellers:
U.K. sellers who receive payments in Euros from members in other European Union countries receive an additional 0.5% reduction in their cross-border fees shown on the Transaction Fees for Cross-Border Payments - United Kingdom page
Fees shown on the Transaction Fees for Cross-Border Payments - United Kingdom page are for Euro payments received from members in non-European Union countries

Sellers in all other European Union countries:
Sellers in all other European Union countries receiving payments in Euros from members in any European Union country receive an additional 0.5% reduction in their cross-border fees as shown on the country-specific Transaction Fees for Cross-Border Payments page
Fees shown on that page are for payments received from members of a European Union country
If a Euro currency payment is initiated outside the European Union countries, the 0.5% fee is added

Yep. Here what Paypal has to say about it:

I did not find any info that the fee is something above the usual 3.9% + 30 cents fee for foreign transaction...

F#@K Walmart !

yes I agree, my new years resolution was to not give Wal-Mart a dime, so far so good. They are actually building a third store near my home, that means we will have 3 Wal-Marts within 10 miles of my home, and 4 within 16 miles of the house. They are crap! I've not been in a Wal-Mart since December and plan to NEVER shop there again :D

I received a payment from the U.K. a few weeks ago and was only charged the normal 4% (cough!) fee. My "details" don't make any mention of a "cross border" fee.

I get the feeling some of the people here who don't have a Business or Premier account didn't read the part about "Business and Premier accounts are charged a cross-border fee" or didn't comprehend it.

Yep, I believe you are correct Cougar.

.

I read the paypal fees for international payments. I am not paying a separate "border crossing" fee, so it must be embedded in the standard 4% paypal fee for international transactions. What else is there to comprehend?

Hmm ... plain English doesn't come across ... but maybe if we invert the sentence, and then say it very slowly:

If ... you ... do ... not ... have ... a ... Business ... Account ... or ... a ... Premier ... Account, ... you ... do ... not ... get ... charged ... the ... cross-border ... fee.

It could be important to understand that if you're considering whether you want to "upgrade" to a Business or Premier Account.

After you move so much money in a month you have to upgrade IIRC. That's the only reason I had to.

I have a premier account and I do not show any separate "border crossing" fees. Like I said, it must be embedded in the 4% fee for international transactions.

I had to go into Transaction Details and then Fee Details to see this:

OilMan,

Got it, thanks. I'm not sure why you were whacked such an incredibly high "border crossing" fee. My "border crossing" fees have been included in my ~4% fee for accepting an international payment.

Wonder if the total payment was around $710, if so then $23.68 would be 3% and the $8.06 just a bit over 1%.

Deacon, that's what I was thinking too. It must have been a heck of a pruchase to be charged $8+ in "border crossing" fees.
