here's my screw you PP story...
about a week ago i received notification from Paypal that from this point on, all money i receive through Paypal would be held for 21 days before i could access it. It would from now on be considered a "pending" transaction.
As you can imagine this is horribly inconvenient for many reasons.
1 quick example: I just put my TAD Gear spectre LPR hoodie up for sale, with all intentions to use the money to buy a new stealth hoodie, which as many of you know is time sensitive. I just sold my Spectre, but have no access to the money which i need to pay for the stealth!
I called PP today and spoke to an account supervisor, who explained to me that this "Hold on my account", as he put it, could have occurred for a number of reasons. He mentioned, customers with high numbers of dispute incidents will receive a hold such as this, to serve as probation.
I begged him to please look into my account and check for disputes, in either paypal or ebay (same company). He came back after 3 minutes and confirmed in 7 years of business i have 0 disputes or negative claims in both ebay and paypal. I have 43 positive ebay transactions, and even more Paypal transactions with no problems. I am a 100% +feedback eBay customer.
I again begged him to remove the "hold" from my paypal account. He came back to me explaining, all i have to do is get my ebay feedback account up to 100 positive transactions. He went on to say that, this "hold on my account" is paypal's way to encourage their customers to make more transactions. I was pretty much fuming at this point.
I explained right back to him... how is it at all encouraging to use a service that has just become horribly inconvenient. In 7 years i have absolutely no record of negativity, and now you're telling me the only way you can trust me is to sell or buy 57 more items on eBay? He tried to diffuse the situation by sharing more "helpful" information. He said, money from a specific transaction will become available sooner if the eBay buyer from that transaction leaves me +feedback. Unfortunately not every person on eBay takes the time to even leave feedback.
so, this is when he started really pushing my buttons. I then asked him about Paypal "Personal" method, which as we all know is commonly used for transactions among our forum members. I said to him there is no feedback involved in that, furthermore it is "PERSONAL!", yet i have to wait the full 21 days? He replied by saying, "ok this is simple, just have the person who sent you the money contact Paypal by email or phone".
I respond by saying... "are you kidding me? First off it took me 3 minutes of searching your website to even find this phone number, then it took me 10 minutes of entering my account information and choosing automated menu options just to get a person on the phone. then what do you do? are you supposed to say, oh yeah listen man, i just sent my buddy Ralph a gift of 100 bucks on paypal... it's cool!"
He told me yes, that is what you're supposed to do, call them and say i just sent money. After, there will be a review process and after that person is proven to be who they say they are, the money will become available.
If you couldn't already tell I'm freakin pissed off about this. It is a terrible policy that is poorly designed for Paypal and eBay to somehow make more money. I'm not sure about forum policy on cursing, but i'm sorry... this is total bullshit. Is paypal that insecure about there security systems to require someone sending money to make a follow up phone call confirming they are in fact the person who sent the money.
anyhow, i really hope i can just do USPS Money orders and personal checks from now on. I know that's possible in the forum world, but that will never fly on eBay.
