Very peasant-ish. This was my grandfather's garage knife. He used it to scrape gaskets, open paint tins, cut belts, and anything else he didn't want to risk his Old Timer stockman on. The scales were hanging on with tie wire and electrical tape (granddaddy never used duct tape, only black electrical), and it was not much more than a rust bar with a bent tip. So I pulled it out of the scrap bucket to which a less stingy relative relegated it.

I cut it down to a Kephart-esque shape, scaled it in oak from some flooring scraps off a jobsite, and pinned with 16d framing nails. I was going to use it as a woodswalking knife, but the Mrs. stole it almost immediately for the kitchen.

I would like to hear more about the Polish knife if you know any info about the maker. Edit, I just looked them up and looks like they have great past, know they make kitchen ware and table cutlery. The daggers, military knives and outdoor knives, etc were discontinued but the company is still around. Cool little read by AI of course.

@Jack Black , is this a WW2 pic or of the Algerian war? The rifle in the pic looks,like a K98K or some type of Mauser and a German helmet . Just curious.

I would like to hear more about the Polish knife if you know any info about the maker. Edit, I just looked them up and looks like they have great past, know they make kitchen ware and table cutlery. The daggers, military knives and outdoor knives, etc were discontinued but the company is still around. Cool little read by AI of course.

I think I may have started a thread about Gerlach knives many years ago, or at least given one away. In the 1990's, I knew a feller who used to import ones like the one I still have, and sell them for £2. They were a bargain. A friend in Poland looks out for them.for me, but says the market stalls are just covered with cheap modern junk, which sells better. A poster here used to have his grandfather's

It is from Barcelona during the Spanish Civil War, in 1936. I think it's quite a famous photo

They were, and air support from the Luftwaffe, but I believe that feller is on the Republican side, so possibly captured, or purchased by the Spanish government prior to Franco's mutiny

Looks like a Spanish helmet so I would think it was during the Spanish Civil War. John

It definitely was John, all the photos in the book are stored at an institute in Amsterdam I've visited 2 or 3 times. I once met Abel Paz, who fought in the Spanish Civil War, and who wrote the introduction
