Perfect Length for a Traditional Pocket Knife

I like a 4+ inch handle, which is necessary to get a long enough blade for me.

Grandad barlow's are a nice size for me.

I usually pair up a grandad barlow with a few shorter knives.

For me, changing things up is more fun than settling on a particular size or having a favorite. Often I go with a 2 7/8" Peanut, but then switch it up to a 3.5" GEC #76 or 4.25" Case large stockman. The smaller and lighter ones are easier on the pocket, thats for sure, but good or bad, I don't have the personality type to have a "favorite". Whenever I think I have found a favorite, it only lasts a day or two, and like a dog who sees a squirrel, I forget my "favorite" and am on to the next one.

I generally prefer a larger pocket knife. I am still "looking" for my favorite size. Weight seems to be more of an issue than length. My two-blade GEC #23 is on the hefty side and I'm think maybe a #42 Missouri Trapper might be right at 4.25". I don't know... maybe a single blade #23? The 2012 trad forum knife is a great size, but a tad small for me. I have been carrying a two layer Vic SAK which is 4.25" and find it very comfortable. But the GECs are heavier than a SAK. As always, it seems that I end up buying one of each. A single blade Queen Moutain Man (4.5") is very comfortable for me... again, weight seems to be the key.

I just ordered a #42 from KSF since they have a discount going on today. Now I will have all my choices or do I? Single blade #23 would be the next choice.

I'd say 3.5" to 4.25" although lately I tend to be going with something that's 3 5/8" - 3 3/4"
