Perfect survival gun?

Perfect gun really depends on where you are at.

Being more inclined to be in woodsy situation as im camping and hiking a lot--I would want a single handed weapon so i could run, hike or climb with it comfortably.

I have a Smith and Wesson 329 that I carry its the 4inch barrel titanium adjustable sight model with X frame synthetic grips.

It has a good power range in it from 750fpe to 200fpe muzzle from 44mag mid range loads to 44 special cowboy loads--this will cover any big bear up to about 1000 lbs as well as most large game down to nasty bipeds as well as shot cartridges for small birds and snakes.

I have barrel inserts that allow me to shoot .22 in each cylinder---so makes it a .22 revolver and i have from .22 hypervelocity to .22 short loads.

I have heard that they make a .357 inserts for it as welll---and want to get those so I can shoot all .357 mag loads and .38 special loads too.

I am a big insert fan. I have inserts for my 12 gauge double that allow me to shoot: 44 mag, .223, 30-30, .410, .22 and would probably carry it as well for my other gun with the 30-30 inserts and .22 inserts

I would also recommend that titanium .357 with the 3.5 in barrel---that has potential with .22 inserts.

My choice.

Terrill,

Sweet rifle.

Guns are like golf clubs, no one firearm will fit all situations. Here are some of my "keepers", guns I will own until the day I die. In no particular order of importance...

Rem 870 12 ga: This shotgun is very reliable and easy to modify to fit a variety of situations. I have a 20 inch cyliner bore barrel w/ rifle sights and 8 shot mag in addition to the full length modified choke barrel for hunting (I forget how many inches it is).

AK-47 (AKM): Accurate enough from 0-300 meters, stone reliable, low cost, cheap ammo, cheap indestructable magazines, easy to fix, low cost spare parts. Can take deer with expanding ammo.

Ruger Single Six: IMO there is no more versatile small game handgun out there. It can fire any .22 rimfire ammo made.

Glock 17/19: If defense is a concern they make a great CCW gun or as a backup to a hunting firearm, shotgun, bolt rifle, whatever. If defense is the concern they make a great back-up to an AK, AR, G3, MG-42, whatever.

M-16/M-203: The ultimate combo gun IMO. If I'm ever attacked by a guy with one he will have to fire it at me alot and sleep with one eye open because I'm going to take it. Mac

For those who asked about the inserts--

I picked them up at a few gun shows over the years
starting in 1988. I am not sure the make of the make
as they are not marked and I bought them unpackaged
for the handgun--.22 model. For the shotgun model--I
bought them out of the Shotgun News---I still see
advertisements for Shotgun/Rifle in there at times.
I really love them---gives me about 7 guns in
2--depending on combo. They do have there
limitations--less accuracy then a dedicated gun plus
less muzzle velocity. I usually make my double barrel
a combo gun---one 12 gauge and one .30-30. I hope one
day to get a .45-70 or .30-06 insert--both of those
would be great. Sorry I cant be more specific---just a
matter of luck to find sometimes. I look all the time.

There a great idea that just hasnt come to past yet.
