Perfect survival rifle

For 177 guns I think dove and squirrel/cottontail or smaller, I have gotten lots of clean kills on this size game and smaller with a 177 gun. Chris

Heavier pellets might be better for hunting in .177. Crosman, Beeman, and a few others make 10+ grain pellets in that caliber.

Congrats on the gun. I have a .22 Benji pumper with the Williams peep. Fantastic gun.

Is it worth moving up to .22 air gun?

Definitely!!

I wanted a 20 or 22 when I bought this one but I could not pass up the wood and the overall condition of this rifle. I still have my eyes open for a bigger caliber one right now, I love the old benjis and sheridans, a c model sheridan with a rocker safety and nice wood might be next.;)

Since we are talking, this is my Daystate PH6 in .25 it is very very accurate and very powerful, I have 1 shot kills on big Arizona jack rabbits at a lased 65 yards. The only problem is that it takes a special pump or a scuba tank to air it up, at max pressure I get about 30 full power shots before power starts to drop, it is a hell of a machine but is a little complex. Chris

I must have a Benjamin. The little Crossman worked very well in eradicating a squirrel problem I had. So well that I have a new found respect and want to step up.

These are not toys, but tools that will put meat in the pot.

That said, my travel duo are a Ruger 10/22 and Ruger Govt MKII.

Heh, airguns, I just bought a walther ppk (bb gun) its fun to shoot but wont kill anything. I used to have a crosman 2289G, .22 And I dont know how many rabbits and partridge I shot with that thing, May have to get another one :)

Oh, also When hunting partridge, Shoot the lowest one in the tree first, they're so stupid they dont even notice and you can get all of them. I Must have gotten a dozen one day doing that.

If a powder burner might get you thrown in the local detention center you might give a damn. I was really talking about now not in a SHTF situation when I mentioned the negative stigma.

Ahhh... thats where the confusion was on my end. Where I live, survival would have to come down to a SHTF situation (which I'm not big on posting about because there is no real way for me to "bug-out" from where I am).

if I was carrying your suppressed ninja gun I would be in jail. Chris

As for the suppressed ninja gun. I did say if it were legal and affordable. Would I want one for plinking and taking to the range. No. Would it be light, quiet, compact and able to take game? Sure. All good things in my book. I won't knock it just because I can't have it.

Besides, the thread is about the "perfect survival rifle" . I just posted what I thought would suit what I envision as a survival situation. How quiet an air rifle is seems to have bearing on the choice of rifle in this thread. Hence, the silencer.

Going back to legality. If a short barreled, suppressed 22lr was legal where you are, you'd be in no more trouble than you would be if you were here in Detroit with an air rifle. In case you are wondering, yes, you would be spending the night in the pokey for having that air rifle out in public (not on public hunting land/state game area or private land).

I can carry and shoot air rifles in a lot of places and not get a second look

You're luckier than you know.

Chris

Seems the "forty somthin guys" Are in agreement.:D

Just turned 40 ;)

An airgun is fine for non-serious hunting lite , or for plinking but an airgun is not going to hold off the rampaging huns at zero dark thirty.
I have read stories of old timers taking deer with a 22LR. so I guess the smaller calibers have a good place in one's survival gear.

Placing an unregistered silencer on any firearm will get you more than a night in the pokey. That is Batman territory, the BATF, and you get to visit a Federal pen.

I finally got a Beeman R7 a few years back. Many Tree rats, field mice and a feral Bantam Rooster wish I hadn't. Witnessed 1 shot kills to 20 yards in .177 @750 fps. I've heard louder staple guns. A neat piece. Corn chips are also good targets. Or bait. It'll knock down loose bark 3 stories up on a Eucaylptus tree half a block away. Someday soon, I'm going to scope it:D .

That's interesting, Codger, and I know what you say is true, but there are a lot of sites on the net that offer sound suppression equipment. I've wondered who they are selling to and what the restrictions are. I know this is getting off topic, but then air rifles to me are a sound suppressed weapon.

Understood. Thats why I mentioned it being a no-no in my original post. In fact, I alluded to it being illegal in both my posts.

The "night in the pokey" is what you get in Detroit/suburbs for having an air rifle and not obeying the game laws. Sorry 'bout any confusion.

Now lets get back to the air rifles and forget I mentioned a short barreled, suppressed 22. ;)

Thanks,
Chris

This bad boy will be getting a silencer in spring:D
Its my SHTF rifle as well as the rifle I use for everything from shooting courses to hunting. The 22 Kit adds alot to your ability to take small game with no major damage to the meat, I can carry houndreds of rounds. The 223 side of it offers some sort of protection against both wild animals and wild humans.

There are also sites selling the bits and pieces to make an AR15 and even a 1022 fully automatic. Don't do it. Yes, you can legally own a full auto. Or a cannon. Or a supressor. You have to register it and apply for a license. I'm not sure what all that entails because I am not interested in doing so. I am sure there are gunsmiths that can tell you. Ask Sammy Weaver what happens when you "oops" a shotgun 1/2" under legal length. Nope. Not interested here.

its very easy to get approval to own a class 3 or AOW weapon provided you pay the federal bribe of 200FRN, and submit to there background checks and opperate lawfully, your local Police chief or sheriff must sign off on your owning it. If you are the town bad boy who just managed to barly keep your nose clean dont expect to get aproved, but knob creek the largest machine gun shoot out there is all privatly owned firearms.
