Pet peeves on knife review videos?

When I make a small knife model and someone tells me it punches above its weight, it’s quite a nice compliment. It wouldn’t peeve me to see a reviewer say it.
 
I tend to watch knife review videos for knives that not many people have talked about yet. In which case, my pet peeve is when its a long video and the knife sits inside a box while they talk for 5 minutes. Not just that tho, when the knife finally comes out, they don't turn it in their hands. I want to see the thing from all angles to get an idea of its dimensions. Since I can't see the knife in person, I'm counting on others to really display the thing well. For instance, I have a Case razor jack and had no clue the thing was so chunky from the side profile. It probably doesn't matter to some but it does bother me.

Not just knife reviewers. In a video, I watched a guy destroy ballistic gel "skulls" with an AR pattern rifle and laugh about how "devastating" it is! The fool probably doesn't realize that anti-gun politicians and LE types also see these videos. Apparently, nobody told this idiot that he would certainly do a whole lot more damage to his gel targets with great grandpappy's old .30-06 bolt action deer rifle! You are right: far too many manchildren and mall-ninja types out there.
 
The "Antis" want to ban everything even without the videos or advertisements. Placating them doesn't help. I used to have the same belief as you, but then it dawned on me that they will hate me no matter what.

Unclear on the concept of what a lethal weapon is used for ?

If lethal force is legally and morally justified ... then it is justified !

Why would anyone want a lethal force weapon that doesn't work as expected , because nobody actually proof tested it ?

Weapons for military , police , and private contractors are thoroughly tested , (or should be anyway) .

Why should civilian weapons ,for self defense , be any different ?

Otherwise , how does a civilian know what products will work and which will fail ? Perhaps at the cost of injury ,or loss of life , to the victims of criminal assault .

I understand. But i also think there are other ways to express the sentiment without having to use the same tired phrase.

I would be more interested in how a knife holds up over long-term, real life, daily use. If I am going to drop some serious coin on a custom or high-end commercial knife, I owe it to myself do do a little research. A well produced knife test video, done by someone who actually knows what they are talking about, can be an educational experience. If a knife will butcher a harvested deer, elk, or other large game, I am sure it has enough cutting power to be useful in a (highly unlikely) self defense situation.

Your post got me thinking about the classic Canadian Belt Knife. I never owned one and have no experience with them. They do seem to have plenty of "belly" in the blade, which should give good performance in a fairly small knife.

There are persons living in places , where the likelihood of having to fight with a knife , far exceeds that of harvesting game . :rolleyes:

And, although a good hunting or butcher knife would work ,in a pinch ,for fighting ; a purpose built fighting knife may work enough better, to make the difference between life and death .

But if the viewer needs self defense /fighting instruction , then an elk butchering video is not very helpful . 😒
 
Let's please try to rein this in somewhat and get back to discussing our issues with actual "knife review" videos? Thank you.
Otherwise, we'll give it a bit longer and close it.
 
I know most video types are going to have some short intro but it needs to be just that, SHORT. Some of these people I have to skip a minute or two or more to get to where they get to the point. And then it's time for their sponsor or whatever they are selling. Sometimes I enjoy just an initial unboxing just to see the knife in front of a camera for a quick description how it feels and handles. Sometimes I want more. But if you're just going to waste my time there's always that button for no longer recommend this channel...

How did I forget politics... Start yapping your political views, get snarky with jabs, try telling me how I should think about anything... no longer recommend this channel. Which is sad because this has happened to a few that I used to enjoy.
 
Offensive language doesn't add any value to a knife review . IMO .

I'm personally not much bothered. But I do think it just sounds ignorant , rather than funny or cool .

It does make me avoid reposting , because I know it really does offend many folks and especially those with kids .

Maybe the bad language is supposed to ramp up the hype /excitement / melodrama ? I don't need that either !
