Pet peeves on knife review videos?

It gets me fired up when they call knives that cut good slicey. I can’t understand why anyone would want to cary a knife that doesn’t cut good. Slicey seems like a back handed compliment to me. I say tar and feather the guys that came up with that term.

Some knives have thicker blades and are more choppy - some are very slim... and slicey.

I think all those knife 'influencers' on youtube are good people, passionate about what they are doing. And are, for the most part, giving us a good education showing us all the new knives. However, it just seems like every single video is basically a sales pitch for a new knife along with their their affiliate links. There is only so many times I can tolerate listening to "drop shutty", "wow can you hear that sound when it closes?" And so forth.

I have to admit getting a sick giggle out of the jackass reviewers that make fun of the idiots in their own comments section. Pot & kettle deserve each other.

Heavysettactical is my biggest pet peve. Hes probably a well meaning nice guy, and I am not sure why, but when I see his videos suggested by youtube I wanna give him the old 3 stooges two-finger-eye-poke.

As for general videos, I think most people covered my peeves, but spine whacks on folders drive me nuts and as others have said, videos where there isnt a slow presentation of all angles and finally reviews that dont actually show the knife being used.

For example, I couldnt find a single video of a montana knife co speedgoat 2.0 or battle goat being used to actually cut stuff. Only people theorizing about their performance. So irritating… especially with how hard they market on social media.

I like short and to the point and not too much on specs. Plus if like the price point which saves a lot of time for me sucks seeing a knife that looks almost perfect then find out it's way out of my price range or is way overpriced.

Don't like a reviewer that is super amped up about anything. It might be a cool knife and I might buy it and like it but in about 2.5 hours I will be looking for another knife. In the end its just a knife so calm down.

Hate the middle finger flip and want to middle finger flip the video when I see them do it over and over. Or flipping it constantly. Once is good, thanks. The BHQ dude flipping the knife like a 12yo during the cold steel interview was funny though. Still laughing.

Or when they're talking and holding the knife or watch and shaking it constantly because their tism isn't making them aware no one can see what they're reviewing. Set it down bud.

Clickbait - is this the best?

Comparing the size to a potato.

If its a review then use it in the video. Sharpen it and explain the experience.

In the end I appreciate being able to see it before I buy it. Videos are better than photos in my opinion. However a well written review with pictures is often better than most videos.

The issue is that the usual review tells us little about real world use. Does anyone care if the thing is “drop shutty”, and do the million grades of steel add a meaningful difference?

Totally agree. I have no pet peeves because when someone posts a video review I close the thread. If it's not in print, I'm not interested.

I use YT reviews to see what a specific knife looks like in someone's hand. I don't pay much attention to the reviewer unless he's pointing out a negative. That's when he says "I don't love whatever".
