Phill Hartsfield KWAIKEN - AIKUICHI - KOZUKA (VIDEO) New VIDEO Page 17

Ha! Thanks again all, I'm sure it's plenty goofy in person. Here's the knife in its sheath. Black deer panels over a smooth cow hide structure, stitched around the edges - pretty much standard, except instead of a belt loop, it just has the triple-ring which is only secured with deerskin lace tied in a bow. :) Can't wait to see the next rendition. Who's it gonna be? :)

Great slim package

You really stepped up and did a great job

I believe you grasped what I was trying to say about what this style of knife is and what its carry ability is all about

In addition

Imho you do not want a loop or a belt strap

To really carry well they need to be sash or iwb carried and it has to be a floating system

It must be able to adjust and go from cross draw to behind hip to IWB to sash with out unsnapping anything

If your Sageo is long enough to tie it in place for vigorous movement and at other times act as a static line than you have nailed the sheath concept and the only thing I would question is the rigid ness of the sheath

Thanks for stepping up

Thanks much and the pleasure is mine. A slim package is my favorite, and the soft "stickiness" of the deerskin makes it nice to keep close and helps keep it in place. The rings are attached so loosely precisely because I figure they would be removed! :D The sheath is not very rigid, but they do get more stiff over time. Maybe a soaking treatment of some kind for the inner hide to make it more rigid would be an improvement, but I have visions of these lined metal sheaths dancing in my head.

Looks great Sam!

Mines done, but I am going to wait to post pics til I gets Matts and Joshs (Adam too possibly) in hand. I'll do a group shot also.
I caved to peer pressure and made a metal sheath. I'll probably make a kydex one also.

Awesome! Can't wait to see them all!

A great thread.
Ben- Will you line your Kydex?
rolf

Depends, I personally prefer unlined kydex for the small fixed blades I carry. It's easier to keep clean and doesn't trap moisture. I also prefer to carry week side (strong side has the boomstick) inverted for an icepick grip draw. So I like a snappy retention on my sheaths.

The metal sheath I made is suede lined and leather wrapped with holes in the tip for a static line as well as having an Ito style sageo wrap.

Ben

I'm stoked

I am so happy you guys are stepping out of the box and looking at carry options

Sheaths are so important

Thanks, Ben.
fwiw, I like the wooly Velcro that C4 uses to line his sheaths with. This material breathes and can be cleaned. And of course, these sheaths can be taken apart.
One of my favorite Kydex sheath designs comes from the late Ed Halligan. He used a roundhead screw, screwed in the blade where a guard would be, and that screw snapped into a divot inside the Kydex sheath. A very nice design, indeed.

Ok guys, here is a teaser pic in the sheath.......
Suede lined, bison wrapped.

Ben,

That is so nice.

My blade is in cryo currently. I am juggling so many projects I need to get my ass in gear

I don't think that one is going to make it back to you buddy

You took all my suggestions and Phills influence and really did great

No more pics or you will wreck my video :)

Thanks for posting Joe :) Always nice to see a Hartsfield thread. If not for him, i might be sitting in a cubicle somewhere now :)

Hey Po

How are you my friend ?

How is that cute baby ?

Please post up some of your work

It is excellent

Carrying a knife this way just works

You can go IWB

Sash cross draw or behind him

When it's free floated it moves and positions naturally

When you need to tie it in

The metal is so secure and safe

This type of carry has so many perks
