Photo of the new Mora Garberg full tang

I've made the suggestion to them that if they choose to keep chasing the $50+ market that it might make sense for them to introduce a separate line branding to denote their more premium models. "Mora" simply makes so many people think "budget" that it really contributes to the sticker shock when seeing these sorts of models vs. when other companies come out with offerings in the same price range with similar materials.

Smart marketing. I like it.

He did a full video review of the knife after shot show, explaining why. In typical Dave fashion, he's a bit wordy. But in the end I feel he did a fairly good job of explaining his viewpoint on the knife.

The short version is that he's not hyping it for his personal belt knife, but more as a more robust and full featured backup blade (which he's advocated for a while now). So he's not changed his preference for a ~5in full tang carbon steel knife for his "survival knife", which makes sense to me, as I had the very same question that you did before. But I feel his explanation makes sense.

He also stated there that he wasn't paid by Mora for his promotions.

I tried to link it to the more relevant portion of the video.

But his name was used by Morakniv on their website.

He is always promoting the carbon steel for survival and then comes up with this stainless Mora?
Makes one wonder ..
Why would you do that if you're so passionate on carbon steel blades.

What was the reason he had to leave Dual Survival on Discovery Channel?

I think he did great in Dual Survival.Pity he had to go.
And he has a lot of good spirit going on.
But sometimes people have a streak..

My understanding was that he didn't develop this knife at all, but found out about it/was told about it, and offered to do some pre-production testing, help out at SHOT, etc. I'm not an expert, but I don't believe that simply having a name on something means you're getting paid for it. IIRC, Mora would have just had to ask permission/have a contract (which doesn't necessarily mean payment) to use his name on the site like that. However, perhaps someone should ask him or Mora if people are really worried about it.

He states in the video I already linked to that Mora doesn't have a processes in place for a full tang carbon steel knife, but that they may be working on it. He also says at least twice that it is not his favorite knife ever, that it will not replace his "gold standard" of a ~5in full tang carbon steel knife for "survival", and is not recommending that everyone should go out and buy one. I feel like he's done a pretty good job stating what it is good for. I guess I think its kind of strange in my mind to think that because someone says one thing is their favorite, that they can't have an appreciation for something that isn't. But to each their own I guess.

I'm not trying to protect Dave, or Mora, but I don't think either of them are bad. I don't think of myself as a fanboy, or as someone is out to get him. I just think that some people are reading way more into it than is there. I am fully aware of why he was let go from Dual Survival, and am also fully aware that he apologized. So maybe I'm inclined to believe him/not be bothered by it when he says stuff like "this isn't my favorite knife", or "I wasn't paid for it".

Anyway, either way, I agree on a few things. This knife should be fairly well regarded/reviewed if its anything like current/past Moras, and Dual Survival was at its best with Dave and Cody :).

Bump....

The Garberg is out!

Thanks for posting this same pic in three different Mora Garberg threads.

You're quite welcome (it's actually 5)...I'll see if I can't get it into a few more.....:p That's my initial pic right out of the box. Please vary the content by posting pics of your Garberg.

Some members monitor threads (old threads) with the notification feature and don't stay on top of all the recent activity...my intent was to bump Garberg threads and bring the discussion/interest level back up.

Robert, I'm concerned that the flares on the side front of the handle will preclude a comfortable pinch hold.

This is one feature I LOVE on the Companion as I use this hold on draw cuts.

 A member in another thread said that in his experience, it was well designed grip, producing no hand fatigue, Don't know if he tried that hold...you might ask over there.

Hopefully more and more reviews will be forthcoming now that it is out. :)

Thank you! I collect vintage Moras, so an 86 buck Mora is not unusual in my world. :D

Fair enough. I'll be over here sitting at the bar while I wait for the Eldris to drop. I will unashamedly pay whatever they ask for that one. Be sure to stop by for a beer.

:thumbup: Thanks buddy and please, let us know how you like that Eldris! Lots of folks are interested in one of those, me included. :)

I certainly will. I am hoping that it will be out soon. I camp often during the year, and I think it'd be super neat and unobtrusive. Sorry for hassling you earlier about your pics, I was all in for one if it had been at the Bushcraft Black price, but was disappointed to find out what it actually costs, especially if you choose the leather sheathe option. I'll be watching out for a deal on the knife, I imagine that will happen sooner or later.

Nice knife. Not a fan of the handle the spine side needs to have both the blade end and tail end flares filed off. And I find the handle a little to round. Just feels awkward. I like the shape of the F1 and the light my fire Mora shaped handles much better.
