Photobucket and Others Restricting Service

imgur may be your guys' best bet. I haven't had any problems with it on my phone(haven't tried on desktop), and it's all free.
I see those links quite often, about as much as Photobucket. So yeah I may go that route. Thanks!

I suspect this is some kind of virus or scam as I can't see PB all of a sudden charging 400$ for something they've been giving away all these years.
Has anyone contacted PB?
Do any of you use AdBlock.
AdBlock works great at stopping adds web wide.

Also just curious what operating systems the effected are using?Windows I suspect.
Safari here with no problems.

Haven't contacted em but It's effecting my iPhone on safari. Multiple sites usn jzd etc and posts from years back. I've looked at many of my old ones. It's just crazy.

It started screwing up my pics yesterday as well. Sometimes I get that image, sometimes I can see the pic fine but no one else can. Doesn't matter if I post from my phone or laptop

I'd understand it if they were just preventing you from linking new pictures but it's a really crappy move to start changing the old pics.

I recently had my linked pics changed on Photobucket too. I'm probably using about 100 megabytes of photos, and don't post pics very often over the past 10 years. I will be searching for alternatives.

Agreed ... the method of this restriction is more akin to ransomeware as mentioned by HeavyHanded in the other thread re Photobucket. They want us to hurt so we'll pay. I store my own photos so that's not my worry. It's their ugly, coercive method that makes me resist upgrading ... and I am certainly po'd enough to take my eyes off Photobucket advertisers for sure.

I still haven't figured out what all the fuss is about. I never have a problem seeing other people's images and never have anyone tell me they can't see mine. I'm using Windows 7 with Firefox & Ad Block Plus. I never get pop ups when I visit photobucket, just a nag screen for $9.99 subscription when I first open photobucket. I click the X and it goes away and doesn't come back unless I leave their site and come back. I always use the "Direct" link or "IMG" link.

I'm in the exact same situation: win7,Firefox,+adblock, and haven't had any problems.
However I did a bit of searching, and apparently Photobucket will no longer support 3rd party hosting of pictures to forums and blogs at lower than $399/year memberships. If they stick with this plan, a lot of pictures archived will disappear. I have no intention to go back and re-edit 5 years worth of posts, and I doubt many members here will.

There was a site in the mid 2000's that went belly up and left a TON of photos stranded. It was 'Free'.

Photobucket AND NOW Imgur are 'Free'. Wait.... Photobucket isn't going to be free and is locking images until you pay? How DARE they charge for a service??!!!

Imgur: A new startup working well. Gaining subscribers. However: Where is the revenue coming from??? Ummmmmm........

Color me tainted, but free is a temporary endeavor until a startup can charge (or's it's losing money).

I pay $75 PER YEAR for my Fototime account (Mostly because of 'bandwidth', not storage.) Every image I've posted since 2002 is still up. For me it makes no economic sense NOT to pay.

I've always despised Photobucket for manipulating images anyway. They downsize the file quality to save space. Ugghh.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure what people meant when they said "third party viewing", but I get what you're saying now. I definitely wouldn't be going back and trying to reupload all my pics and fix broken links either. I tried that on a small scale when I tried organizing my photobucket library awhile back. Way too time consuming.

I'm having the same problem
ALL of my 600+ Photobucket pictures in this and 2 other forums are now blank, impossible to see.
Years worth of posting. I am so angry at them, as if I hadn't had enough with their constant failures and problematic servers, tiresome ads and stubborn pop-ups etc.
I switched to imgur a week ago and so far so good.

Just my $0.02

I've started switching from Photobucket to Imgur. One of the things I love about these forums is that you can see pics of every kind of knife, tool, history, etc. - and what really sucks is that I've got 10+ years of photos on bladeforums, and apparently the links are starting to turn to the third party warning. Some of what I've posted is historical stuff, and I don't feel like going back and re-linking the photos again.

I hope Imgur stays with their current operations. Much better than Photobucket, IMHO.

Same for me. I had pics from when I joined BF and they're just on Photobucket, nowhere else to link them to.
Crappy place, never going back !

No problem in paying for a service I use but the free account was available and recommended for my purposes - so I joined up to post here on BF. Certainly free Photobucket has been leveraging user stats to gain income from their advertisers. And they have been inundating free users with spam and ads and email relentlessly ... They use their user base and, OK, if they are not making enough from advertisers and paid subscribers, it would be fair to start blocking 'share image' from the free users from now on. Don't go back to the beginning of time and make ugly every pic posted in threads across all the users and forums that have relied on them.

It is the 'retroactive' nature of the restriction ... "It's their ugly, coercive method that makes me resist upgrading ..." The pics many have posted over years are now ugly blobs in threads. Big black circle, 0 zero Photobucket.

It's just crazy. I mean the pictures and knowledge we've spread around the forums comparing contrasting knives and gear for me it's about 10 years depending on the forum, and that's just sad it's all gone.

I've been using PB for years now too. Have yet to have them drop the bomb on me

BUT - I have recently discovered with the BF new format I can just run a JPG of any of my photos through my Adobe Elements program to make sure it is a decent size - 72 to 120 pixels per inch and maybe a 6" wide photo and this is what I get now on BF. I just drop it in to the post and choose THUMBNAIL, or in this case, FULL IMAGE. Gets the point across without the middle man.

I'm lovin' it
