Nice! I like simple and functionial. If you don't mind me asking
Is the head just stripped of the paint or did you treat it somehow? How did you treat the haft?

Thanks,

Thanks brother Teague!!!

I specifically bought that particular hawk as a thrower, and did the 'rustic' look treatment because that seemed to fit...

It hangs on my bedroom wall when not being used...

Thanks,

I stripped the head with common sandpaper... by hand (a bit painfull!!!) If I were to do it again, I would take the head to work and use a bench grinder they have in 'tooling' that has a 'Scotchbrite' wheel on it (sort of like soft steelwool)...

As for the haft, I took the 'powder' that was on the workbench from the head sanding and just rubbed it into the wood by hand... :jerkit:
It took me maybe 10-15 minutes (also a bit painfull, ie: blisters on hand are likely doing this)...

I don't mind people asking how I did it... :)

Just a thought. Get someone to just send you the head and find a handle locally?

indeed, that was what i was thinking about aswell

i mean just the head, ok it weights, but it is allmost ridiculous to send a pole halfway round the world

i'll look into it when it is time to order another axe-toy :p

I hope this works... I wish I could paste big pics in the body, but this is it for now. This is a CS Trailhawk. I personally have been very pleased with my CS purchases. Granted when I got this baby I was initially turned-off by the finish. I used some Formby's paint stripper to remove the coating. Then I lightly blued it to "gray" the steel using Cold Blue. Learned, be sure to sand off the poly. I then stained it with a water based stain which was more like a paint - not what I wanted. I lightly remove it and found that in some areas of the grain it really looked good and added a "brown" look to it. Covered it with BLO and I was happy. I mainly using it for limbing trees and fire pit duties. These are great bargains and fun projects. I like the look of the shorter handles, but power provided by the long handle is sweet.

Mark Williams. He's here on these boards. He also made the traditional spike hawk. I'm thoroughly pleased with the quality of both of them!:thumbup:
Nice stuff, I have seen some of Marks other work. Very Very nice...

Nice work on the Frontier Hawk. I love it. Won't the head rust without the coat of paint or do you oil it heavily after use?
