The horizontal satin finish is saweeeeeet.

Man oh man, I surely feel like I've missed out on the horizontal satin finish UFs, done by the CPK-Angel himself (the one whose heart Jo keeps in a jar). I may have to go on a secret mission to try to score one

Just wanted to try to capture a better image of my vertical satin finish DEF with AECM. It looks pretty wicked. Just wish I could do it justice. I put some Obenaufs on the AECM which darkened it up a bit.

I’m waiting on shipping info for mine, I’m very excited to get it!
It’ll be the little sibling to my MC and HDFK, should make a nice set- though I am really liking the lines of the Shiv, maybe I’ll get one some day.
I was really hoping to have the FK by now, I really wanted to take it with me on a hunt tomorrow. Oh well, I guess it’ll get to eat firewood and cook dinners before it gets bloody in the field.

Past tense, I did own one in Elmax but that was done vertically. I also had one in 3V which went horizontally but I decided to let go for the sake of one n D3V, which I didn’t add in that finish because I didn’t know any better back then

Seriously though, the Elmax was traded for a 3V which was horizontal satin and a sharpened 1" tip; now that's the one which I now RAGRET letting go of which was probably one of Nathan's much earlier works. I don't know who that UF had originally belonged to, but I can count at least 4 CPKers whose hands must've touched that knife in its circle of life! The good news is that it is now safely with the gentleman who probably owns more finished CPKs than Nathan & Jo ever did

So I received my Friday's Sale (12/14?) FK2 in buffed double-black micarta yesterday. Thank you so much Jo/Nathan/Mark for such expeditious turn around amidst the Holidays PLUS moving! The Carothers of Moorseville are just such serious, proud and honest business operators. Kudos kiddos

Now the pictorials with pics taken outside on this sunny So. Cal day on 12/31:

Commentary and impressions based on the visuals:

The double-black is a lot darker inside than what you see on these pics if that's your sorta thing (my preference is for this deeper black). The finish, at least to me, is indiscernible unless I start looking with the magnifying loupe for the machining marks on my UFK (with the Terotuf). But here's the caveat:

I used to have 4 UFKs and I kept the one with the smoothest finish which was from the much later batches. I think that Nathan gave himself a lotta unnecessary grief after the unveiling of the UFK and in the later batches he actually reduced some of them tooling marks (more field effect) but as always, YMMV. If you look very closely, you may see the more hand finished effect on the double-black on the flats but like I had said, apart from an anal-ist like yours truly, no one other that @JustinFournier would be able to tell or care

I can highly recommend picking up a Discreet Carry Concepts clip to run on the sheath if going to be carried in the pocket. Have been running the same one on a FK sheath for over a year straight and has not lost any retention

I also snagged one with double black micarta, it could easily be mistaken for black G10 with how nicely it turned out. I’m very happy with it. I was able to get an extra set of scales in OD Green so it’d match my other CPK’s but I don’t think I’ll be putting them on the knife with how nice the double black looks.
