Pic thread- knives that were ridden hard and put away wet!

Here you go one of these has been used a lot, the other brand new. I used it on wood and it doesn't show it very much.

What the hell? Why would you do that? That's just as bad as an unused knife...purposely trying to take coating off.

I believe, in some instances, this apparent phenomenon is less valid than it may seem at face value. It is true that many of us are obsessive about our knives. However, many of these are heavily used, and still look pristine. This is because some of us like to keep our knives clean. We polish out scratches, keep the blades well oiled, sharpen out the chips and rolls, and replace broken parts.

That might just be me though, I know I can be a bit of a nut :)

This plus a lot of guys take a pic of the knife when it was new 5 years ago and that is the only pic they have when they post on the internet forums. Not everyone is into taking photos all the time. ;)

Is it just me fellas, or do more than half of the pictures of knives posted on this forum look to be knives in pristine condition? I just find it funny how everybody talks big talk about all these "hard use" knives and how much tougher, etc. one design is over another when almost all of their knives have hardly been used!

With that, I'd love to see a thread full of pictures of knives that have been to hell and back with you and are covered with honest, rough, and sexy use!

Who cares. Would you rather look at this............

or this......?

Rose Hips., and don't pick the first you walk up to. Dogs and coyotes will wiz all over them. :)

All my knives are "users". The basic 154CM in the BMs doesn't get too beat up looking (in person you can see tiny scratches in mirror finished blades from cleaning stuff off them at certain angles). The main thing that happens is the handles get sort of rounded and softer with a lot of use, but that's almost invisible in a picture. My pocket clips also have a tendency to get nicked/scratched/bent more than anything else. My Leeks don't even show scratches except on the pocket clips.

Also, this thread concept has been done repeatedly in the short time I've been here. Nothing new under the sun.

These are in my pockets today. I don't really own any safe queens :)
The Kershaw I bought on the bay for $7 if Ircc. The Vic Farmer I bought on clearance maybe 6 years ago. I carried every day for years until a gifted Leatherman Wing Man kicked it out, pliers are a great thing to have handy. But the SAK has fought it's way back due to a thread here about alox I posted in recently.

To answer the OP's original question. Yes I think that most folks here don't really need a knife, and don't really use most of their knives. If you own 20 or 30 or 100 knives, you really have to go looking for work to get them all used. Yes a lot of folks only take pictures of their knives when they're new, but I think there are just as many if not more folks who have a pile of knives that have only ever cut paper or road around in a pair of slacks. I would not call that being used.

Nice ZT...worn ZT...pry-bar ZT that didn't.

Nice pics.

Thanks. I've pried a lot with it, but the tip actually chipped when it fell and landed on concrete sad to say. After all I had done with it I was saddedned for a few foot drop to take the fun out of things. She's getting a new blade and hopefully some Rival scales in the near future.

Gerber Firestorm I picked up at a pawn shop...she had some mileage ;)

You lucky dog! The Firestorm was one of the good ones from Gerber. Hinderer designed and very solid compared to most of their recent products!

What the hell? Why would you do that? That's just as bad as an unused knife...purposely trying to take coating off.
One of the tests I run is to see how sharp a knife will remain after having to make a hobo heater in an emergency situation, and how easily it will do it. Worry not, I don't do it to all of my knives.

For the record, that knife still shaved my arm hair after that, be it with a little catchiness. A couple runs of a stone and it was razor sharp again. It's a $25 knife, and a little blemishing of the finish was well worth knowing I could rely on it to that extent.

I quite agree. I have two GB's, NIB, in my safe. I know they are great, but have never used one. This is one model that I use for gifting...with satisfied customers.. :)

Thanks! Beware of putting one in your pocket, might give that 'zaan some competition!

Howd ya break the tip?

My friend broke it prying open a door, after a sharpening on the weps it's still a perfectly functional knife!
