Pic thread- knives that were ridden hard and put away wet!

I don't understand the people that think they have to use every single knife they buy either. Not only that they make fun of the ones that choose to use a few and keep some NIB. I wouldn't buy nearly so many knives, if they were just for using. Why? Because I simply don't need dozens of user knives. I need a few to use and can only justify buying the way I do if I keep most of them NIB. I'm a collector, of knives I choose carefully that may go up in value when they aren't available any longer. I'm a user of a select group of what I own, that I feel serves my needs best. If I took every knife I own and just used them all, I'd devalue my collection by many thousands of dollars.

Used hard and often, but I always take care of it. The natural patina just gets cooler and cooler with use. This pic is a couple months old. I should get a new one of the blade since I field dressed a few deer with it.

You nailed it I'm in the I use all my knives category, and I don't really buy knives any longer. Can't stand to see them not being used so if I don't have a use for it I don't buy it. Does that mean I don't love knives? HECK NO! I just appreciate them through use rather then collection.

I'll play.

The SnG hides the ugly pretty well, but the stripes are actually worn very very smooth compared to a new one.

Here are some more pics of my Delica and Horseman.

The Delica is a great value and holds up really well to everyday use.

The Horseman has not held up as well and its liner lock slips off the tang of the blade with only moderate pressure.

I will have to send it in to Emerson and hope they correct the issue.

This season. Its been a good season for squirrel.

Not good knife pics. More so in-use pics. My dedicated backpacking knife set. The SAK has spent the last 20yrs being huffed over 7k miles and endless mtns. All the while, having dried old food on it. Still going strong. The Delica about 15yrs while doing the same.

Note tip broken off the Delica when I got in a hurry(I was hungry lol) in 99 or so, and used it to spin the locks(think using a quarter to turn something) on an anti bear canister while in the Ca-Nv. Sierras. Dammit!

The RAT-1 is my building lot knife. I really like it for that kind of tasks - cutting concrete bags, stripping wire and cables etc etc....

The GEC #15 is an EDC knife for me - please ignore it in that pic.

I think the difference is that you're looking at the monetary value and artistic value. Where folks like me are proud to see something used the way it's supposed to be. The art and value is more in how useful something is.
What's the point of buying a jacked up 4x4 just to take the kids to soccer? Or just to look at? I don't mean to be offensive, but some folks are more practical than others, that's all.

Right but, I don't need 10,000 dollars worth of users. But, I can justify owning 9000 thousand in collector knives and 1000 in users. Just the way I see it.

You don't have to justify anything. I'm just trying to help you understand the other mind set.

Here's my EDC for a long time in addition to being the first real knife I ever owned, along with the 690 that I like to carry now.

I have to say to Jill, Chris and Killgar, that its just like a lot of things, most people tend to/should be a mix of both schools of thought. I'm sure there's many a Benchmade head that would be appalled I EDC a pre-production/limited/discontinued knife, but that's my favorite little rock solid folder ever so why wouldn't I? Cuz F what other people think dangit this is 'Merica. And as sarcastic as that might be/sound that's just the way it is.

Had this one for a couple of years, sold it about a year or more ago and see it just sold again yesterday here on the forum  Neat to see shes still out there goin strong ;)

I won't own a knife I won't use, a watch I won't wear, or a gun I won't shoot. First and foremost, they are all tools.

To each his own.
