!Pics added! Taking the 7 towards "tactical"

OK, more pitchers fur yah. Went back and sanded with some grits in between 800 & 1500 looking to see if I could get it a little *more* polished. Came out about the same.....still OK with it. Also got the coating off the rest of the tang and polished up the "tactical" end.....

Haven't really worked on the edge, but as of now it will just POWER through cardboard. Immediately had to clean it off, tho. In case it's not apparent to anyone what's under all the cosmetic surgery:

If you need to scare your children on Halloween, I'm available....no costume required....

Last night finally got the scales and handle prepped; used a little cutoff to make some "lands" for the handle cutout. Fitted and scuffed up everything.

Stainless pins are a LOT harder than the brass ones I've used...chucked 'em into the drill and used 80 grit and a triangular file to give them some grip.

Then some last fitting before mixing the epoxy.

Ready for glue:

I ask you, what work can take place without some lubricant? In the foreground is my birudashi purchased from daizee at the Gathering a couple of weeks ago. I love that thing already. Slips into my pocket and disappears until I need it.

Well damn. Can't wait for the next series of pics. That's coming along really great. I'm sure you're learning a lot in the process!

Looking good! I'm amazed how much you have transformed the 7. Can't wait to see the next set of pics, or the choice of beer be (too bad Celebration is not out yet)

I'm waiting for that, too....but until then, there's plenty of fall beer to drink. Had a couple Flipsides last night; got some Redhook Out of Your Gourd Pumpkin Porter and a couple growlers from a local brewery, Tributary. Haha, I certainly don't have a problem finding beer that I enjoy....but there isn't enough room in the fridge for a more complete selection.

Finally shaped the scales, polished the spine and belly along the handle, polished the "tactical" end a little....gonna get some tru-oil or danish oil for the scales tomorrow, then put the final edge on. The nemesis of all my projects - the "almost done" monster.

Rubbed with some alcohol, tang sanded to 800:

Hopefully, they'll look like this after some finish is applied. Stopped at 180 for the my-carta. I like the grippiness of it.

I'm pretty happy with how the MikeCarta came out. Getting ready to make some more before the cold weather really sets in. I think I'd get fired from the family if I poured resin in the house.

Oh yea! Looking very nice.

I don't think I would have ever thought to use purple on a knife, but man, I actually really like the color those scales came out.

Somehow, the color goes perfect with the curves of the blade. Flows perfectly. :)

Thanks for the compliments, folx!

Thanks, Dex. Once the resin gets in and you sand it a bit, it loses the real serious "purple" color. As for the rest, I was fondling my LHR (Gerber) while shaping the handle on this 7....it's narrow in the front, but the integral guard and thumb ramp should keep a hand from sliding forward. Looking forward to getting the blade unwrapped and playing with it, but so far it feels pretty good in my hand.

I hated those damn grind lines on my bk7. I never got rid of all of them. Just too much work for hand held diamond sharpener. Your knife is looking very nice Granite. And if I remember correctly purple used to be a royal colour:D

P.S. Nice Otter Box.

the red stripes are *awesome*.
A bit more with that 180 and you'll get all the shaping marks out of the tang. Sucks, doesn't it. :-)
GREAT job.

Though I did the profiling with a grinder, all the factory grind lines and the the rest of the knife were removed with wet/dry sandpapers and elbow grease. Not a job for the faint of heart.
And thanks, I like that case though I wish it were actually waterproof. There are not a lot of decent options for the Galaxy S4 Mini, and that seemed the best of them.

Thank you very much. I did many grits higher than the 180, but some dings just got left in as a reminder of my imperfections, as well as because I would've ended up shrinking the handle dimensions had I tried. I decided to leave well enough alone, and not let perfection be the enemy of good enough. Got some "Bush Oil" today (a basic oil finish with some driers in it) and gave he scales a coat tonight. It's a little glossy where I sanded/polished the pins, but overall I'm happy with how it came out and really looking forward to unwrapping it and final finishing. Edge is pretty sharp already; was slicing a couple feet through corrugated before I bound it in tape.

Liners are actually orange (at least that's what color the canvas was), easier to see here:

Stay tuned for the final unveiling....tho I'm gonna need to make a sheath for it - a SpecOps came from the Exchange in the mail today, but it's a tad too short. Is carbon fiber Boltaron gonna be too much? I've got purple, too, but Barney colored plastic just does NOT scream "tacticool".

Well Granite, you certainly knocked this one out of the park. Your scales are exceptional.

Granite - After seeing your great work over here your compliments mean even more! You got it down, these look awesome. Gonna have to go back to page 1 and read this thread..

Edit:

Wow. Unbelievable amount of work went into this knife. Very creative mods... I am glad you tried out the bottle opener a few times, never can be too sure.

Thanks! I like to make things harder than they should be.
