Pics of serious breaks chips or cracks on a S30v blade.

The bulk of my experiance with S30V has been with Strider Folders. It has been uniformly excellent. The Sebenzas for me have been nearly as good.

No chips

The only chips I have put in s30 was on a mini manix. Cutting 36grit sand paper is not good for a low edge angle. My fault

S30 is good for me, as is case CV, BG-42, D2, ZDP, S90V, S60V, VG-10 :D

I've had 5 out of 17 knives in S30V that chipped out. Good odds? Dunno. All are gone, and if I knew I had to prove it to someone I would have taken pics. S30V is just a steel, some have been good, some bad.

I wasnt asking you to prove anything. Why would you think that?.
I just asked if anyone had pics of badly chipped or broken S30V that was sustained under normal use.
I know there were heat treat issues early on but every knife ive had in S30V has suffered no more chipping than i would expect from a steel.I have been happy with it overall and was just wanting to see a sebenza or something chipped to pieces.Considering some people think its as brittle as it comes and the stories i have read i was just wanting to see for myself what others were saying.
But if you had 5 out of 17 knives like you claim chip what made you buy that many?.

Over the 1st couple weeks I experienced some micro chipping with my Spyderco Native. Was able to sharpen them out, and have not had any problem with it since. Don't have any pics, would not have thought to take them and the chips were not easily visible. Have experienced similar things on a couple of non-s30v blades, as though the temper on the edge was brittle. A bit of sharpening seems to fix it.

I got a big chip on my S30V Buck 110 after opening a package.

I'll try to take a picture of it.

Okay, I think you can see it on this picture....

Wow would you look at the size of that chip, it's covering more than half the blade.

Now that's what I'm talking about. That's just...that's catastrophic:(
That poor Paul Bos guy that did the HT. What did he use, a toaster oven?

I havent had any trouble with my s30v chipping but my complaint is I havent seen the outstanding edgeholding abilities that it is supposed to have. Then, once it is dull it is a bear to resharpen. To me its not worth the aggravation to resharpen it just to gain a slight (if any) edgeholding advantage over steels like 154cm or vg10.,,VWB.

Actually took a moment before noticing the real "chip", was looking at the blade edge- too funny! Nice looking knife, did not realize they made the 110 in S30v.

While it's difficult to tell from the pictures, those look more like tearing and indentation than outright chipping vivi.

had to sharpen a paramilitary about 6 times to stop the chipping on cardboard. used to have pics on the comp, but no one in this thread is actually interested in seeing them.

Wow that is so awesome!

I am in awe of you!

How long have you been able to read minds?

looks like the knife was used instead of wire cutters (wire cutters being the RIGHT TOOL for the job). Nasty knife abuse there......wonde rif you can sharpen dents like that out?
