Pictures of Ron Newton knives.

What we will be seeing today is a wonderful bowie.

This massive clamshell guard bowie has a 13 5/8" salt quenched and freeze treated 52100 blade with a very stylish Spanish notch. The handle is fossil walrus ivory. It has blued nickel damascus fittings. The antique style sheath is formed leather, with silver tip and throat.

It looks like fototime.com is having some problems right now. Hopefully they will be back in a little while, the pictures will be back and I will post another one.

And now for something completely different.

This is a Scottish Claymore Sword
25 year anniversary ABS anvil, fire, and bowie picture scene mosaic
damascus blade, textured heat colored guard. Ironwood scales with silver studs. Sold and displayed in the Frieberg Gallery in Sweden.
Won Best damascus, Arkansas Custom Knife Show 2001.

I don't have a picture yet, but I recently purchased one of Ron's new Tactical folders the "Ovation". Man is this an awesome knife! I hope to get the gold membership soon and will post pics as soon as I can.

Flying dragons mosaic damascus trick funtion auto.
Gold inlays in bolsters, mammoth ivory scales and gold anodized vinefileworked liners.

I really like the looks of this folder. Great lines and materials that go together perfectly. Mammoth ivory has always been one of my favorite handle material.

Very nice! I think I would like it better without the dragons - just the fine W pattern. But it's amazingly elegant as it is.

Here's another one.

Stag Racoon Hunter:
52100 blade with coon tracks, blued and gold inlayed coon tracks guard, sambar stag handle with integral carved raccoon w/ gold eyes depicting a "tree'd coon" and carved tail hanging out the other side of the handle.

Wow... That's a nice one. Are those knives from your collection?

Joss, I wish! Nope, they're not mine. Ron sent me these pictures so that I could get a real good look at some of his creations. I figured you guys would appreciate it if I shared them with you. I do have two knives on order from Ron, with the first one due for delivery in about a year. I will post pictures of these knives after they arrive.

For the next installment here is a fantastic bowie that has a story to go along with it.

Commemorative gents bowie built in memory of scrimshander, Rick Fields. This knife was commissioned by Dr. Larry Martin in 2001.
It has a diamond ladder pattern damascus blade of 01/15N20, blued steel fittings w/24 gold inlays.

Rick Fields' last piece of fossil walrus ivory that he wanted to
scrimshaw, but never got to because of his fight with cancer was used on to make the handle of this knife. Gary Green scrim of Lynx, broken branch scrim opposite side of handle to depict Rick's passing. Rick requested this knife be made by Ron and scrimmed by Gary just before his death.

Terrific knives thus far Keith - what an incredibly broad range of beautiful blades. Here's one that I'm guessing is about as simple as it gets from Ron: 4 ½” scary-sharp blade of forged 52100 with a hand-rubbed satin finish, ironwood handle with black lip pearl inlay on both sides, nickel silver guard, pin and thong hole.

It's always hard to capture the dancing colours of nice pearl:

Even on a relatively basic knife such as this there are clear Newtonesque touches - great lines and proportion, exceptional fit and finish and an aesthetic sense that can't help but inject an element of beauty into each blade. Just a real nice little bird and trout / small game / general utility type knife.

To this point in your display I'd have to say that there's only one type of knife Ron doesn't know how to make: an ugly knife. ;)

Cheers,

Roger

That is one really great knife Roger, thanks for the pictures. I like that relatively simple hunter.

Today's knife is anything but simple.

Edited to correct some errant information.

The best handmade award was not given at at the 2002 Atlanta Blade show. This knife won the "Blade Handmade Award for Best Miniature". The "Blade Handmade" awards are announced at Blade Show West in September, at end of each year and are given by Blade magazine. Sorry for the misinformation that I originally suppied in this post.

I am going to get all the pictures I have posted before the scheduled forum downtime this weekend.

Edited because I did not properly post the picture

Don't know why, but it looks like the picture in my last post was automatically changed to the smaller size.

Andrew, that is why I am posting these pictures. I think there are a lot of people that don't realize the breadth of talent that makers like Ron have. This is the case with most of the top makers out there.

You guys just wait until you see the last picture that I am going to post (only two left). It is really going to show what Ron is capable of.

Edited to add:

I managed to get the larger picture back in the post with the Sherrif's Knife and want to see if it will be automatically resized again.

Time for the second last photo.
