Got these pictures today. I don't have any info to go with them, so hopefully Ron will add his comments.

I have some info on that stunningly elaborate bowie which Ron describes as a "Persian D-Guard":

- Design was a joint effort between Ron and his client;
- Blade is a little over 10" with an overal length a bit over 16";
- Materials for knife and sheath include Siberian mammoth ivory; 24k gold; 14k gold and ostrich leather;
- complete take-down construction.

I'm confident Ron's customer will be grinning from ear to ear for some time to come.

Hello All. This thread has been a delight to read. You see I am a good friend of Ron's as well. He and I have been friends since we met, 20 years ago, before Ron EVER made a single knife. You should see his first, we were all very impressed with it when he made in our shop, numbered it #1, and still has it in his toolbox at home. He takes it out every now and then just to look at it and see how far he has come, and to remind him of how much he has learned. By comparison to what he does now, well its obvious he was a beginner then. Its amazing how far he has come in those short years. I made Ron his website, and keep on him to send me new pictures of his work so more people out there can keep up with what he is doing. He sent me the link to this thread so I could snag pictures of some of his more recent works. Needless to say everytime he makes something new I am just impressed that much more with his abilities. IF you all don't know what his website URL is...well its:

www.ronnewtonknives.com

Check it out you can see some of his earlier works.

But surely you guys know that. :D

Ron combines many attributes that make him not only a great knifemaker and artist, but also one heck of a good guy. He was able to work with me and that is not always easy. I do tend to make changes in knives I have on order and Ron took it all in stride. At times I expected him to tell me to please make up my mind, but he never did.

Ron is certainly one of the top 3 "all around" knifemakers in the ABS.
He can do it all, from forging his own steel, making swords, or even making an intricate folder with a "wow" mechanism. Lots of talent here.

Keith, you are so right...Ron is a very special kind of person. He has always been an artist in his own right. When we first met Ron was just a "welder" with incredible talent. At that time he was using that talent to make custom western belt buckles and was selling them on consignment at western ware stores around our area....on one occation the company we worked for had Ron, Myself, and two others come on on a weekend to our machine shop, paid us overtime to make the retiring CEO a custom beltbuckle and pen/pencil set for his retirement present. Needless to say...all were impressed with rons work then.

Ron is FULL of WOW....the very first knife he ever made was a folder. The guy that worked with us then you may know, his name is Jarrel Lambert, and is now a mastersmith in his own right, at that time he inspired Ron to get into knife making, and Jarrel had never even made a folder at that time.....HE was impressed as well. Ron NEVER fails to impress and astound those that see his work. As stated, Ron is not just a knife maker, he is an ARTISIAN, of that fact no one can deny.
