Keith and Ron, this is simply incredible. Can you give us an idea of how the auto is disengaged? Bolster release is the only thing I can see.

Thanks.

Nope, not a bolster release. This is not going to satisfy anyone, but I was asked by Ron not to tell people how the re;ease mechanism works. He wants to preserve the mystery for awhile at least.

Thank you all for the kind compliments. I will share the mystery of the mechanism as soon as I get back from the ABS Reno Show next weekend.

HOLY CRAP!!! WOW! WOW! WOW!

I just picked myself up from off the floor. I had never seen any of Mr. Newton's work before, so this thread relly knocked me off my feet. Absolutely outstanding work Mr. Newton!

What a way to welcome back the forum.
Ron is as fine a person as he is a maker.
Thanx for posting those incredible pieces

Here are a couple of photos of a new art folder that ron just completed for a customer. The detail on this knife is astounding.

Coop.
On the antique reproduction auto you inquired about, the main dagger blade is released by pressing the smaller wharncliffe blade into the handle about 1/8" of travel.

Ahhhhh......! So very ingenious. Thanks for sharing the secret!

Hopefully I will save up enough to buy an antique reproduction folder like this with sambar stag handles from Mr Newton ,some day. That is a unique release mechanism and a lovely looking folder, great work by a great mastersmith.

Figured I would post some more pictures of a new knife that Ron just made. With Ron no longer taking orders, all the pictures in this thread should serve to drive everybody insane (with most of you guys it would be a real short trip).

This is one of the knives going to Solvang. A Snoopy theme knife. 4" mosaic damascus with 3 Snoopy pictures on both sides of blade. Nickel damascus bolsters with carved Fleur-de-lis. (the same nickel damascus will be used on my bowie fittings :D) Bone handles with a collection of Snoopy's bones carved into the spinebar. Scrimshaw of Snoopy taking a snooze on his doghouse on one side and Joe Cool himself wearing his sunglasses on the other.

Well, i only have one of Ron's, a measely liittle hunter, but its quite a knife in its elegant simplicity. Nice stag too. :)

That Snoopy folder is beautiful and the little bones on the spine make it even more appealing.I have not seen a spine done like that. That is a folder that is going to make somebody very happy.
The hunter of magalobyte's is very nice.Wonderful stag on it.
