Back in the market for one of these and trying to see what options are available...

Have looked at Case (not a huge fan of styles), AL Mar (like them but not enough to buy), and one of my favorites Benchmade (though the only style which I would say qualifies as a GF isn't totally my style in pics at least), didn't know what other options were out there....don't want something overly ornate but something high quality.

Any thoughts and even better pics on what you think of when you think gentleman's folder would be great

Here are the ones I had been considering...

I agree with your choice of the Case SlimLock.....very classy and well made.
I have a buddy here in Mich. who has every one Case has made, and they are all great.

Take a look at Moki and William Henry. Here's an older WH T10 that I bought used a few years back. I think I paid 175 for it. Great little knife, 3.5" closed, that disappears in your pocket.

its funny as the case is arguably my least favorite, fav is the bottom benchmade as I love the blue inlays.

Hi Mathew J -

Most recently, I have thought of my Phillip Dobson modified CQC-7 as about the ultimate modern gentleman's folding knife. The knife sports handle scales in brown European oak with black micarta bolsters, and a wonderful custom re-ground and polished blade.

I like the Moki by W&H too. Nice clean lines. Part of the reason I loved the look of this new Boker Ceramic Anti MC Plus was just because it had similar lines. Of course I had to personalize it to my tastes with a new tip up clip and a over travel stop for the lock but otherwise I kept the clean lines and like it. At 2.5 ounces its a pretty good weight for EDC. The best thing was the price though. Great pics and really nice job by Phil Dobson on that 7.

I like that Boker. Is that the same folder that won a Blade Show award. It looks the same and also had a ceramic blade but think was made by a different company. Or maybe their the same made in China folder going to 2 different sellers.

Not sure but that may have been the Stone River Gear folder. They sure look the same to me. I'd be curious to know the relationship between Boker and this company and this knife. It makes you wonder when you see something thats obviously the same with few variances. Apparently there are some optional patterns and choices on the SRG model but it is double the cost basically compared to the Boker. I wonder if this price with the Boker is a special introductory price or something??

I know it won't fit the definition of others' gentleman folders, but for me the Benchmade Rift SBK. It's just so **** sexy; I use it as my dress knife. Or my 32 Morpho BK, but I like to be unique.

I've got this one for Sunday going-to-church functions. It's a Queen checkered pearl stockman.

I recently bought the black lip pearl one of this set from A.G. Russell and it fits the gentleman's knife category quite well, as any of them would. They are the Squire models.

Something like this would also fit the bill quite well. An Mnandi has the benefit that it's probably a bit more robust construction than some of the others too.

Finally, you might also take a look at Kershaw's line of wood inlayed knives. These frankly don't get much attention, but they're nice knives with excellent F&F, come in a variety of sizes, and are very reasonably priced. This is their Squaw Creek model.

I'd second the suggestion for Lone Wolf knives. They have lots of very nice gentleman's knives in higher-end materials that are very classy. Of course, WH makes probably the pinnacle of gentleman's knives, but the prices are commensurate.

that boker looks real nice, do you think the blade will hold up ok ?

Well, ceramic isn't the toughest material. Its so hard its brittle so you wouldn't want to drop it but if you just use it for cutting jobs (no prying) it should last as long as anything else. Should stay sharp a long time also.

My gentlemans folder is the 2009 BFC traditional forum Barlow.

What a classy, classy blade.

Thanks all, those AG Russell knives look just like the Al Mar ones, and in reading the description they were originally made by William Henry?....

I like that style or the more modern Benchmade it seems.

CR knives seem nice but I really don't want to go over $200 on it as I just dont think I could enjoy using something as it is intended to be used in spending over that for a knife.

Thanks

Sorry, it's a horrid picture - but the Kershaw made-in-Japan 1993-2 'Gentleman's Folder' was a great example - ~$150 list, when available. Mine was ~$70 shipped from an evil-bay store. The hollow ground 2.75" edged lockback blade is of solid VG-10 and came with a tad steep bevel, but very sharp. The black Micarta scales cover brass liners, which protect that .118" thick blade spine. Brass pins/lanyard hole and a blade mounted thumb nick. It comes with a black leather sheath with a vertical plastic belt clip - not it's finest attribute.

Handsome and quality knife - very dressy for me - the picture doesn't do it justice. It's been in and out - currently, out - of production over the years - but well worth the search for 'old stock' somewhere. My second choice would be my Buck 172 Mayo TNT - a Ti-framelock with an S30V blade and outstanding build quality. Sadly, it was dropped last fall - but stock still persists, as does a CF version. It's shown here with a Buck 347 Vantage Pro, also in S30V:

Of course, it's all in the eye of the beholder... I have some Custom Shop Buck 110's I think are perfect - and, some days, my recent ZT-301 purchase really looks great - to me - probably not so good at the bank opening an envelope! I think a Vic SAK - like my blue ALOX Farmer, is really nice. I guess I have weird taste!
