What can I say? The man is a gem.

Not only does he ship two firesteels across the ocean without asking for payment up front, but he includes a piece of maya wood which he cut and drilled to make it suitable for a keychain or lanyard.

I know Piet's praises have been sung before, but it doesn't hurt to revisit the topic when a person is so well deserving.

Piet, I'd be glad to support your scouts again when you come up with some other products to share with us. Hmmm... a small survival kit perhaps?

Your scouts are lucky to have a man like you.

All best,

The Scouts are lucky to have a person of such character supporting them. Like many of you, I have had the pleasure of 'talking' with him via email about several things. My latest email exchange brought 3 FireSteels to my home along with the extra's mentioned above.

Happy Scouting,
Sid

I'll fifth that, so we have a...something.

I was going to post pretty much the same thing, but was waiting 'til Piet got my money, and the deal was done.
Payment after delivery, and a bonus item (the maya wood) thrown in-you can't beat that!
I've shown my Firesteel to two of my buddies, and I think they might want some when Piet gets more.
Knowing you're helping the Scouts out is a nice bonus, too

Thanks, Piet!

I'll sixth that.
Firesteels, glowrings, and other goodies in the works. Always delivered before payment.
Always the gentleman.

Gotta do a BTTT for someone who is as honest as there is, but may suffer here because he is overseas. Folks, don't let that stop you! He is one of the best to deal with and has a US intermediary.

Hi guys,

You all make me feel great but also a little unconfortable as what I do for our scouting club is just my/our normal way of treating people and doing "business".
This is also what we try teaching "our" kids as this is something that the World could use more these days.
A word is a word and no need for a 200 pages contract before people can "do business" with each other.

However it seems that our groups "lucky streak" has come to an end as of the last time we send Glowrings over to Glowring deprived Forumites 4 perhaps 5 payment letters went "lost" in the mail
frown.gif
and that hurt and still does a lot.

We always considerd sending normal envelopes with an Airmail sticker and 80 cents of postage to be very safe as we only lost 1 letter in the past 18 months but this unlucky last period has ruined the little profit we made on the Glowrings, even worse.

I (we) normally send out an envelope with more then 3-4 Glowrings by registered Airmail to be shure that they arrive in the US and I (we) will ask in future shippings that "larger" amounts of money ($40 and up) will be send by/in a registered letter.

To keep costs for you friends down I'm even looking into having the payments send to a friend in the US as I guess that a registered letter in the US will be less costly then to Europe.

Again guys, I (we) really appreciate your kind words a lot and I can "bounce back" the ball by saying YOU too are ONE GREAT BUNCH of people that I'd like to call and do so without hesitation, my (our) distant friends.

Thanks again for your support too our Scouting group when time permits I'll post the opening pictures of our new club house on my photopoint site but my regular job is taking up a lot of time at the moment.
Perhaps in the weekend I'll find some time.

Best scouting wishes from Holland,

Bagheera

Bagheera, I will gladly make a small contribution to your scouts to help make up for your losses. Just email me your address again 'cause I'm not sure if I can find it.

BTW, your scouts are lucky to have such a great role model.

Piet,
If you had a friend here in the US that we could mail our payments to that would be a great idea and insure your never losing receipt of a payment. We could send him payment in US Postal Money Orders which could be replaced if lost and are as good as cash dollars. Dishonest people are not likely to tamper with Postal Money Orders.

The problem with sending cash in the mail is the risk of loss to both parties involved. If any dishonest postal employee, either in the US or Europe, was to recognize there was cash in the envelopes coming to you the likelyhood of "loss" is sure to go up.

Whichever way you decide to handle this matter in the future is fine with me.
