I hate this knife. Well, it's sort of a knife. It is big and heavy. I have seen sharper edges on prybars. I don't know who Tom Brown is or was, but he must be a heck of a man to lug such a heavy useless thing around in the wilderness. So I am sending it to pitdog. He wants one. Think of it as the anti-Mora. Just for fun, I put an actual edge on it today. It was like sharpening an anvil. Now maybe he can cut something with it.

Just wait until he sees this posted here. I want to see actual photos of pitdog on top of a mountain with it.

At the risk of being offensive ... how did you ever end up with one of those?

Just curious.

I'm hoping PitDog can make it to the top of the mountain lugging that. Perhaps Maisey can be persuaded to drag a travois?

Wow! That is quite generous! If only there were more people like you in the world!

I bet it will be well loved!

I must have been drunk when I ordered it, OP. I have no idea what to do with it since I don't have a boat anymore, except a canoe. I'm afraid it might sink the canoe.

Whoa thats a helluva gift.

I don't like the design at all, but damn thats mighty generous of you.

I'll ship it all the way to Canadia next week. I think it is a couple pounds. The balance is horrible. It came with an instruction manual that I lost or threw away. All I know is that is the worst knife I ever tried to use. The edge was so blunt, it just dented wood. The saw won't saw, either. Maybe a skilled woodsman like pitdog can show us what it can do. :D

I've had 2. When they first came out. One had been modded by Brian Goode . Coming from a tactical knife background I really wanted one, long before the movie ever came out too! I tried to love the knife, really wanted to have it work. The one Brian worked on was a whole lot better. He did about the same thing you did to it with your regrind. But it never worked out for me. I have seen a few videos on guys using them with pretty good luck, making primitive bows in the field and such. But I made out a lot better with other knives.

One thing, I don't think you'll be able to break it without trying really hard.

I even made a couple for myself with some changes. Thinner stock, higher bevels and so on. No saw. But never got it just right. Hope that convexing ya gave it helps. I would love to see one work out well.

Wanted to add that this is very generous of you, they ain't cheap!

The sparks have been flying at the back porch grinder lately. I converted one of my Busse Sarquatches to a full convex Bowie.

I know it is just the design. All TOPS knives can't be as bad as the Tracker. The steel is good and they are well made. But I just haven't had the nerve to buy another TOPS. I saw some at Blade that looked interesting.

I've never heard of anyone favorably report about the factory edge on a TOPS. Pretty unacceptable feature for a cutting tool. But I do have a bit of interest in the designs on the Black Star and the Pasayten. Just not enough interest to drop that much cash.

Holy sh*t Vic that's an awesome looking edge, now ya got me really excited to check it out !!!!

As for who Tom Brown is, he's a legend Vic, he's also a very controversial character who a lot of people feel exagerates the truth. Whether what he says is true or not really doesn't interest me because he is still one of the main reasons I get " out there " as much as I do as often as I do !!!!

So now ya see why I want to try out that anchor, and don't worry there will be plenty of pretty pics !!!;)

Yeah the WSK design is pretty much useless.

I respectfully disagree my friend...I will agree that the TOPS is an Anchor..the original (BECK)was a sleak design, and it works..I own a close copy that funtions in all its required cutting tasks, just like any knife..only it chops better than most knives in the same length..(6" blade). The edge on the TOPS..infact, MANY TOPS knives...leave much to be desired.
I understand that traditional guys dont like them..they look pretty spacey, but they DO work. I have no problem cutting, drawing, or chopping with my MARTIN..and I have given it a pretty good go lately.
I dont much like saws on knives..this one is made to "notch"..which I find is an excuse as to why the saw wont work very well...but it does square a notch...and that makes traps work..so it gets a thumbs up from me.
Also, it doesnt weigh much more than say a Kabar and a Mora..and can take care of whatever they can do.
Anyway...here I am again..defending the WSK..I dont know why I bother...I guess I just cant believe that it doesnt make sense in the "one knife" catagory to most guys here...but then again..the Nessmuk is a wierd design to me, that doesnt do anything for me...that puts me in the minority all around , HUH???:D

NICE work on the BUSSE's

I wasn't going to mention this, but since other versions have been brought up, I also have a cheap Paratraxx version that cuts much better. But the handle came loose. I can see how a thinner, lighter version might be a useful knife. In any case, at least pitdog's will cut. I couldn't send it to him without it being very sharp. About the only good thing I am known for is sharpening knives well. :D

Have fun with that sucker Pit!

I've been tempted by this knife for some time now, does anyone know if the Red Scorpion Six Raven model exceeds the TOPS version for cutting tasks?
