Pitdog's New Boat Anchor

Generous gift Vic and re-profiled as it now is I am sure Pitman will enjoy it. He could always send it back to get it thinned out on your belt sander if it would work better.

The Bowie/SasQ looks great as well!

Holy sh*t Vic that's an awesome looking edge, now ya got me really excited to check it out !!!!

As for who Tom Brown is, he's a legend Vic, he's also a very controversial character who a lot of people feel exagerates the truth. Whether what he says is true or not really doesn't interest me because he is still one of the main reasons I get " out there " as much as I do as often as I do !!!!

So now ya see why I want to try out that anchor, and don't worry there will be plenty of pretty pics !!!;)

Don't drool too much Pit', Tom lives about an hour from my front door , and shares the same woods with me. he does'nt walk on water unless you pay the big $$$ to take his classes. Then he's like a ghost around the camp, a glimpse here, a mini lecture there, nothing like our own Marty Simon....Wilderness Learning Center. Now there's a REAL Wilderness Instructor:thumbup: People name their own knives after Marty, and they work like magic...Take some classes from Marty, and buy one of the knives that he uses and amaze yourslef with skills you've learned from a Master Woodsman. To put it another way, I'd rather take the time to drive 8 hours North to take a one day class from Marty Simon, then to drive 1 hour South and take a full week of classes at Tom's....for the same price:thumbup:

I could make a use for one. I think that the spine/saw notch closest to the tip is too close, and would weaken the tip (too deep also).

Tops makes a tough knife from what I hear, but the grinds on most don't seem too well suited to good slicing, deep cutting.

The sparks have been flying at the back porch grinder lately. I converted one of my Busse Sarquatches to a full convex Bowie.

I know it is just the design. All TOPS knives can't be as bad as the Tracker. The steel is good and they are well made. But I just haven't had the nerve to buy another TOPS. I saw some at Blade that looked interesting.

Horn Dog great regrind on the Tracker and I love what ya did with the Sarsquatch. The Tops knife is a boat oar good steel but feels nothing like the Beck version. I do not carry a WSK in the field but The original design for making tools Traps Etc. has some merit
My Beck WSK

For the legend that Tom Brown is, I always wondered what the heck he was thinking with his knife choice. Cosmetically it looks terrible(ugliest knife I've ever seen!), and functionally it looks impractical.

It is on all accounts, and even though Tom's school hawks those things, most students end up using Moras:eek::rolleyes:

Well, I'm no expert, but the last time I held a Tom Brown Tracker in my hand, all I could think of was that if I were carrying it when I had to cross a river on foot, that bitch would drown me. You would think with all that weight, if it couldn't chop through a sapling it would simply break it in two.

There's actually a smaller Jr version which must be even less usefull, but like a brick in yer hand! I've hefted them both side by side in a Tuscon knife store, and they are slabs. Horn Dog has done the most justice to that WSK I've ever seen on one:thumbup:. Certainly there are other similiar designs possibly better executed, that may work for some folks so it's not a complete wash. I'm just curious how Tom survived all those years of his youth without one:rolleyes:
