Please Say a Prayer for my Peanut

I've done the same thing, well kinda.

The wait sucked but it all worked out in the end.

Glad you got it back.

Okay guys, further discussion of this topic can be continued in the "feedback" area.

Carry on.

It took me long enough to find this one again.

What an odd move. I guess a story about a traditional blade doesn't belong in the Traditional forum. I feel a little less welcome there. I wonder: what sort of feedback did I provide since I said nearly nothing about the service itself?

Since this thread is now in GB&U, here is that feedback...

The service I used was Airport Mailers Incorporated. Its drop box was just outside the security line at the San Francisco airport, and I expect location would be the same at other airports. Contact info is as follows:

Airport Mailers
PO Box 389
Kernersville, NC 27285

Contact info: customerservice@AIRPORTMailers.com & 336-499-0899

The knife and slip arrived in perfect condition. The company apparently tacked on an extra $2 for the leather slip, but in retrospect, I guess I got off lucky as the fine print notes each item could have been $9.95. Seems kind of ridiculous given the size and the fact the knife fit into the slip, but there it is.

There. Now, I guess it's a feedback thread.

Guyon, the fact that the thread was tangentially about a slipjoint doesn't make it material for the Traditional Forum.

The discussion was primarily about whether or not your knife would show back up (and thankfully for you it did).

You can read the guidelines for the Traditional Forum in a sticky at the top of the forum page.

Moving threads isn't done as a personal affront though your taking public umbrage rather than contacting the appropriate moderators via PM or email is somewhat of an unnecessary distraction.

If you have issues in the future, feel free to discuss them with Gus or myself before making a tempest in a teapot within a thread. Thank you.

OK then, good. But I am curious. Can you tell us what the actual postage was? I mean it looks like they charged you $12.00 USD in round numbers for the service, however, did it arrive in an envelope with a $1.52 cents stamp postage mark or what exactly?

BTW, Glad you got the little guy back.

I was just honest about my frustrations. I was kind of ticked it took me nearly ten minutes to find my thread. Went through 4 pages of posts. Nothing. Back through them again more slowly. Nothing. Searched for threads in Traditional with "prayer." Nothing. I looked in General. Nothing. Finally went back through my post history to find it.

The thread, as originally written, was not about feedback, so I wondered why it wound up here (and still do). If it fit anywhere else, as posted originally, it fit in General perhaps. While I did express my frustration above in post #44, I also turned the thread in a direction so that it actually fit in GB&U. Blues, you fail to address that fact.

However, I actually think you're off base about relevance. My reason for posting in Traditional was that slipjoints (pocket knives) are in all likelihood the #1 knife that gets confiscated in airport security lines. They are the knives that folks forget about because they are small and so easily mixed in with other items in a pocket. In that sense, my narrative was pertinent to the Traditional crowd. Clearly, based on the responses, others had experienced similar events and/or wondered about outcomes in these events.

Of course, YMMV based on the guidelines, and it apparently did.

Well, now that I've mentioned the service provider, we are getting more into the terrain of feedback, .

Anthony, it was stamped in such a way that the postage amount did not appear. It came in a padded envelope that could not have cost more than $1.00 to mail. I doubt seriously it was insured.

I thought I was going to be charged $9.95. However, I was charged $11.95 apparently because of the slip and even though the knife was inside the slip. That $2 must have been for someone to take it out of the slip, glance at it, and then put it back in the slip. :p

For everyone's benefit, be aware that not all airports offer the mailers. I fly too much and occassionally forget to leave my knives at home. I think the last one I lost made it all the way to Philadelphia in my carry on, but they caught it on the way back. The TSA confiscated my Spyderco Native and when I asked about a mailer, they said they didn't offer one and that they were keeping it.

I did mail back a Kershaw Scallion (from NYC?) and got it back in about eight weeks...

Closing this one. The knife has been returned and the relevant information about the company and attendant charges has been posted above.
