PM2 or wait longer and buy a Sebenza?

What's wrong with S30V?[/QUOTE]

There is nothing wrong with S30V, its a good steel, but looks at how many knives made with this steel are in the 100-200 range and ask your self, is the Sebenza so much better that it its worth $500 +

the notion that the construction is some how superior to all these other knives and makes it worth this much $ is hard for me to buy into.

because It has a titanium handle, I would probably put the value (to me) of a small Sebenza at $225.00 and the large,....$290 (maybe). I think that's what I feel they should cost and in my own mind cant justify spending close to double that.

Believe me I had interest in the Sebenza and have done some research, and I have not convinced that I must have one at that price.

All the more reason why the Sage 2 Titanium (which consequently has CPM S30V for the blade) is a MUCH better deal than a Sebenza...it's the EXACT same materials for God's sake! They can be had for $150 if you know where to look and should never fail you.

To me, if you're in no hurry to get another EDC, then WAIT. It's definitely worth it, and if you scratch it up, etc etc, you can send it back to CRK and they fix it

Who is charging $500+ for a sebenza???

You can get a like new 25 off the exchange for under $400. I've seen them.

And just because the steel is marked the same does not make all things equal. Heat treat, grind, finish etc. Are all factors relating to just the blade.

Do I think the Sebenza is expensive? Yes

Do you get more bang for your buck with a PM2? Yes

But I would save my money and buy what I really want and like.

Just another opinion not wrong or rite. I have to say I love the Elmax on my ZT and feel its some of the best ive ever owned. Others cant stand it. Whatever works for the user. If you can sharpen it well, and use the heck out of it, you will be happy.

Price is subjective. My favorite knife ever after owning most on the market is a perfectly functioning strong ZT 0561 and I only payed 170$ shipped to boot.

you guys had to throw a monkey wrench or two into the mix. i just looked at the sage 2 titanium on a video and wow. looks like its in the same price range as the pm2 right? which is the better one? also, i'm going to hold off on the sebenza until maybe the spring.

I'm not a fan of how the sage series rides in my pocket. I feel like it's ridiculously wide for the blade length so it feels extremely bulky for a small edc folder. Had a sage 1 and sold it for this reason and would not try another but YMMV. Between the sage and PM2 I'd get the PM2.

With that being said, I have a sebenza 21 small and large and just recently a sebenza 25, and they make my spydercos (PM and Southard) feel like a Gerber with good steel. It's the same really as trying to decide between a $50 gerber folder or a $200 spyderco folder. 4X the price and it still just cuts things. The draw for me to the sebenza and CRK in general is the company. They not only supply you with the tool necessary to disassemble their knife, but they give you a tube of their lube with it. These little touches just add to the experience and along with the tighter tolerances and tighter overall feel justify the bump up in price. It's just a matter of what's important to YOU.

Take a look at the comparison picture of the Sebenza with some other knives on page 1. Isn't it obvious what a mousey and very ordinary looking knife the Sebenza is when compared to the Benchmade and the Spyderco Military and even the Para-Military in that picture? If the photo had contained the Spyderco Szabo and the Benchmade Bedlam as well, the inferiority of the Sebenza would be even more overwhelming. I believe the cost of both the afore mentioned knives is half that of the Sebenza.
It is simply astonishing how many people have drunk the cool-aid when it comes to the Sebenza. In fact if I couldn't trade or sell a Sebenza I wouldn't pay 25 bucks for one. It's just simply too weeny and boring.

I guess we all have different opinions, you have to decide for yourself what is important.

To me, it's not about how the sebenza looks in a picture on the internet. Not knocking my spydercos or benchmades at all they're great, but when you actually hold them in one hand with a CRK in the other, they feel sort of like toys /:

Your response makes me think that you're the type of person who can't understand why people buy BMW's or Mercedes Benz's when more pedestrian cars can do the same overall thing: get someone from point A to point B.

More directly in response to your claims, the Szabo and Bedlam both look ridiculous and I'm not sure why you're trying to compare a classic beauty like the Sebenza to two oddball miniature pirate scimitars like those two. The classics are usually classics for a reason, and your view that people who appreciate what the Sebenza offers as having "drunk the cool-aid" is absurdly derisive given that we're discussing pocket-knives. After all, the chances are good that you have spent money on a top end product of some kind, where someone else might point to a cheaper version of that product and say YOU'VE "drunk the cool-aid". I wonder how you'd feel about it?

Expensive though. I'm not saying I lose things easily but if I did lose a knife, I wouldn't feel as bad about losing something $150 instead of the price of a Sebenza.

I think that is a wise choice... I think if you bought a sebenza that you might not use it really. Sometimes it just takes awhile before most can justify using a blade they just spent $400 on

I have no problem now. But I did at one time :)

Sage2 or PM2. I would ask yourself which blade length you like better? I prefer the 3.5" range myself.

Both of my Sebeza's have S35VN blades, and I am fairly certain that CRK started using that steel about 3 years ago.

Well the big difference is that CRK uses S35VN in the sebenza and other folders currently. The Sebenza is made 100% in the USA! Someone has stated the Sal has said himself that his would cost that much if made in the good ol' USA :)

Both are great knives.

If you buy the spyderco you will be happy but will regret not getting a sebenza

From personal experience and knowledge:

The PM2--good knife, cool lock, decent steel, good tolerances

Sebenza--supreme knife, excellent lock and executed to perfection, quality steel, perfection in tolerances.

In the end, they are both knives/tools and will both cut things. I feel more like a BOSS when cutting with one of my Sebs though.

You are on the right track now. I own all three and the Sage 2, PM 2, Seb 25 get pocket time in that order. With the vast majority going to the Sage 2.

Btw, there can be such thing as diminishing returns on tolerances. For example, you could have a knife that has optical interferometer tolerances. It would not look or function any better but it might cost 10x. As for me, I have never had any slop with Spydercos or Benchmades. Seems like a lot of people "buy" into the tighter tolerances marketing. Has anyone independently verified this as true? If true then at what level? 1000 th or 10000th? What parts are surface ground? As far as I can tell from my ownership experience, it is just marketing.

It sounds like you are saying we should be happy to deal with inflation in order to get a US made product. No thanks. My PM2 is made in the US too, and I have yet to find any flaws with it. It's all in individual perception, the same as when non-knife lovers question spending more than $30 on a pocket knife. I get what you're saying though.
