PM2 vs Griptillian

both are great knives, but the para wins over for by a better handle, blade shape and choice of steel!

Stock Griptilian < PM2 < Ritter Grip / Custom Griptilian < Custom Ritter Grip :)

Both are great knives - I've found I like the blade shape of the standard Grip better than the Spyderco. I also prefer thumb studs over the Spyder-hole, and studs also take up less real estate. In-hand feel is better, to me, on the Benchmade, as well.

However, that's all personal preference, and both are great and popular for a reason.

PM2 hands down.

PM2 gives you: G10, Comp lock (which I feel is more reliable than the axis), full length liners, S30V, all at $120~

Grip gives you: Cheap feeling grivory handles, partial liners, 154cm at $100~ Upgrades in steel are going to cost you. Best deal is the Doug Ritter Griptilian with M390 at $140. Even with the M390 blade, you are still getting a very mediocre knife with questionable quality control. Their warranty department is good, but you shouldn't have to send a brand new knife in for warranty work. To quote a member here, mqqn "If you make it right, you won't have to 'make it right.'"

I've owned four BM folders and a fixed blade. All but one of the folders had issues, a Cabela's exclusive orange mini-barrage which I purchased in store and could personally inspect. It was a gift for my father in law. I own no Benchmades now, and will not until the prices become reasonable and the QC improves.

Para 2, hands down.

FFG, G10 scales, flow through design, compression lock... all for ~$100. That's hard to beat.

The grip handles had a lot of flex, the PM2 very little.

Stock knives? PM2 by a damn longshot.

Modded knives? Griptilian by a small margin. But even then it would depend on which PM2 it was going against.

Exactly right. My comparison was with a standard black on black PM2. However, when put up against this its not a contest.
CF s90v, Gripitilan

I feel like personally the Benchmade Griptillian compares better to the Spyderco Manix 2 and between those two I would take the manix 2 (upgraded steel and better handle materials for a cheaper price). Between the two you listed I would most certainly choose the PM2 every day. It is in my pocket 90% of the time

Just wanted to think what you guys think about PM2 vs Griptillian, thanks for your feedback!

I don't think it's being too polite to say that there's no "better" in that comparo. They're both great folders, but quite different -- size, blade shapes, grinds, steel, slabs, ergos, locks, opening -- so the choice comes down to preference.

I own both, and both get pocket time (along with a ZT 0770CF, like the one Nfd538 mentioned, which I love). I have no real criticism of the PM2 at all, but if I had to choose one it'd be my 551 Griptilian.

I guess I am in the minority. I prefer the griptillian. The handle on the PM2 is just a tad longer and it just makes it feel slightly big in my pocket for EDC, and you are not getting much more for that longer handle, unless you have giant hands. The blade lengths are almost identical.

I've never owned a Para 2, but I have been using Mini Griptilians since they first came out, so I am very biased...

That said, I don't have any hate for Spyderco knives. I currently have a Sage 2, and had a CF Chaparral, and both are outstanding knives.
I do not like the blade design of most of the Spydercos. It doesn't mean they are bad, it is just personal preference...

Back on topic, for those that don't care for the Griptilians and their plastic handles, and think they are flimsy, I would love to see an honest torture test to see how they hold up.
I already know how the BM will hold up. There already videos of people actually trying to kill the knife. I have my doubts the Para 2 would hold up anywhere near as well :D

In the end, there is no right or wrong choice. There are a lot of great knives to choose from, and we all have different likes and dislikes...

Made a video about this both great blades

That's a good comparison video. There are some things I disagree with, but that is to be expected with any comparison...
Then again, I have never owned a Para 2. In all honesty, I think the thing that has kept me from looking at it closer is the blade design.
Even though I am a Mini Griptilian addict :D the CF Chaparral I had was one of the nicest knives I've owned, and at some point I will probably buy another...

Clearkelvin, very good review and having both I agree with most of your points.

Both are great knives, but also pretty different. In pocket, I find the PM2 to be more comfortable to carry. The large Griptilian is fairly bulky in pocket. In hand, the Griptilian's handles are more hand-filling, so less fatigue if doing a lot of cutting. I like the Axis lock more than the Compression lock. And if you get one of the G10-handled Grips (either by Benchmade or 3rd party), it really does make a big difference in the feel of the knife.

You get about 1/2" more blade with the Griptilian and about 1/2" more handle with the PM2. Here's a shot I took a while ago that has them both.

I own a PM2, a regular grip and a Ritter grip. The regular grip stays in my hunting bag. I alternate carrying the PM2 and the Ritter by the month. Love both knives. The FFG makes the PM2 a better slicer and the hard 90 on the spine allows it to throw sparks off a fire rod if you needed it to. I don't have a problem getting the S30V or M390 silly sharp. I would be happy with either knife.

I prefer the Grip. I had a PM2 and really enjoyed it but it was just too big to carry comfortably. In saying that, I don't like carrying the Grip all that much either, it's just too fat. I much preferred the Delica till I lost it. Now I'm thinking about getting an Endura for a long enough blade.

Both knives are edc legends and for good reasons. Grip is a great knife for the money (bought mine for $72 but I see lrides went up, shame) and benchmade does their 154cm right. You get blade choice and you can order a "custom" grip with your favorite blade steel (they should add m390 options), blade shape and colo of scales. Axis lock is ambidextrous, strong and fun to use. Plus there's the ritter grip which I prefer the blade steel, blade shape and finish on. $130 for a tough, light knife with m3 is a heck of a deal.
As far as para 2 goes, I prefer it personally. Sure it has a more delicate tip (I never broke one yet) but thats because it has a better cutting geometry. I dont mind grips frn but I prefer g10 a d carbon fiber on my knives. If you keep your eye open, you can get one of the best edc knives in a new steel with some cool handle options and if you don't like it you can make money of it. I prefer a spyder hole over thumbstuds for opening and ease of sharpening (although props to benchmade flr making their thumbstuds removable, eases in sharpening) and theres more ways to open a knife with it.
If I had to choose, id say regular grip is a great knife but its beat out by the regular para 2. The ritter grip in s30v is neck in neck and m390 is slightly better imo. Sprint run para 2s are as good of a knife as you can get for under $200. But you can't go wrong with either one, all of these are amazing knives that sell like crazy for good reasons, just pick whats more important to you out kf the features they have and you'll have a great knife.
