PMP Alpha Beast coming soon, OMG!

I like a beefy knife. But I’m not sure this thing IS a knife. It reminds me of Mjolnir 🔨

This beast is even a little too much for me. But If you like it then you like it. So I say get it.

I saw this title, and was thinking, "High-end Chinese Ti Framelock in M390" before I even clicked on the page. D2, no M390. Surprised on that front.

It seems the main accomplishment here, is trying to pack the most amount of mass per cubic centimeter into a knife. making your regular pocket-knife, have the hand-feel of a chopper, just for that extra bit of, er, security. ".394 blade stock"??? That is like three Shaman blades, is it not?! Wow. This weighs an OUNCE MORE than the aluminum/smooth "fancy" version of the Espada XL! I am never, ever going to feel dumb about the weight of carrying that knife again, knowing people would carry this. I knew it was not heavy for what it was... This is a FEW oz heavier than the regular Espada XL. Weighs more than twice of what my full-milled-copper PM2 weighs, and that's a 7.4~ oz knife!

I am just a little amazed, the fact that I own the Espada XL hopefully shows that I have no sights on mocking anyone for their tastes, but wow, this is certainly something. I am sure anyone who does like it can understand why others may not.

"Heavy is good. Heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work, you can always hit him with it."

If you like this, check out the brass versions of the Artisan Proponent. Over a pound, monster blade, just joyously ludicrous in every way. :)
Yup, ridiculously ludicrous in fact...

One thing - this could interest me if the blade was longer. Espada XL size, but fashioned more as a utility chopper than as a Navaja-style knife. Maybe with improved technology, or with specialized pivot steel, I don't know, I'm no engineer, I don't know what the future of pivot technology could look like. But, if it was possible to maintain a knife of large size, say 6-7", folding, chopper... I could definitely see a market for it.

The Espada XL is not a very good chopper for wood. I would not use it (or any knife, ideally) for wood-chopping. More like, better for chopping dead wood, brambly stuff, things like that, away from you on a path. So, something this thick that could be used on wood without shearing the pivot would be cool. Some places have laws that highly favor foldable knives, so this is why one would not just grab a fixed blade, the sensible option.

Dude - that folder weighs the same as my largest fixed blade (1/4” stock):

I’ve never handled one, but if I was looking for a folding chopper I’d immediately buy myself a Cold Steel Rajah 2…

$500? I'm guessing they're charging by the ounce. What's that like ~$30 per oz?

I like lightweight knives. But to each their own. $500 for d2 though? For that it needs to give pleasure beyond what a normal knife provides...

Not that I'm opposed to spending that kind of money on a knife. But I have standards.

500 is a bit much for d2..I guess all the money goes to the metric ton of titanium it will use in the handle

With that scale thickness and the goal is to get a heavy piece of steel, why do they even bother to use titanium, which supposed to save weight?

G10 of the same thickness is extremely strong and saves more weight or stainless steel if they want pure weight and durability.

Maybe this intended for felons, as a way of being able to carry a knife that doubles as a ranged weapon? Since it's illegal to own a gun if you have a felony.

reate just had to out-medford the medford designs - they seem to have simultaneously achieved double the weight and thickness

Not for me, but it looks like a guilty pleasure kind of knife. I say go for it OP I bought much worse (the mini balisong from Terrain 365, still kicking myself for buying it...).

Well, so much for limited demand. WMK sold out his allotment in less than 24 hours!! I was not one of those buyers. Very interesting, but I would never carry or use it. I'd like to see a version under 10oz with a sharp edge though.
